Stories from the world of RC car racing

No – there’s no broken bones – maybe a brain scan would have been a better deal.
Just because I wanted a change I was bidding on a Tamiya TA05 on ebay last Sunday and missed it because the price went beyond sanity. On the rebound from that I had a cyber chat with Adrian Beggs and negotiated a super deal on a very new and heavily modified Xray T2007 – it’s the rubber tyre model with the front multi diff.
It makes absolutely no sense for me to run anything but Schumacher because of the spares I carry for that car and the low cost of those spares but hey I’m old and probably senile and just felt like a change – so it’s an Xray for the Interclub 3 – both days and possibly for the Qld Titles. Naturally the GTB has been installed (the best install I’ve ever done of the cumbersome GTB ) and I’ll be running the brushless 4300 in 19t and the 13.5 in stock.
I’m pretty enthusiastic about running a bit of touring car racing again as retirement didn’t suit me all that well. I’m not planning to go back to the old days of being at every meet every weekend or anything like that, I’m just going to race where and when I feel like it, and where I can resume some old enjoyable rivalries and where I can maybe help some newer guys get up to speed. There could be a fair bit of laughing happening as well I reckon.
I would (if I could figure it out ) upload a picture so that the observant amongst you can see that the car has the Tamiya shocks fitted and also HPI front arms and uprights (I have the originals as well ). I put three packs through the car on Tuesday night at Logan and it certainly seems pretty good – heaps of rear end grip, maybe a tad of slow speed understeer, I think it will be good at Sunny Coast but next Friday week we’ll find out for sure.
My comparisons
Changing a spur gear       Mi3 = 3 screws      Xray   =  11 screws

Good thing you got Adrian’s car, I heard a rumour that those luxury X-Rays come with plastic shocks 😉

Surprise surprise – the Xray really goes quite well. Put a few packs through it before racing at Logan (couldn’t race unfortunately due to other committments) and it certainly went around very well – unexpectedly well actually – won’t say I’m an xray fan yet but warming towards it with every pack.

Now I can’t race the Interclubs I’ve probably got time to get a Mi3 in and put together for the Qld Titles so after tomorrow at Bayside I’ll probably have a Xray 007 for sale.
Fully kitted out with Tamiya shocks, HPI arms and uprights and the front multi diff (naturally all the original shocks and parts are there for you as well – and all teh HPI and Tamiya springs ) – it’s all in very good shape, just done a cople of drift meets and a couple of onroad meets. Give me a call if you are in teh market for a great touring car deal.

Actually got a race meeting in on Sunday at Bayside.
Had some good races with Martin (driving a similar car ) and confirmed that the Brushless with standard non-sintered rotor is certainly no quicker than a good Co27 possibly just a bit slower down the shutes but quite good up the hill.
The car is actually very good with the mods Adrian had made and just a little tweaking of ride height and droop saw me doing faster times than my previous best at Bayside (earlier model Schumachers – only done one meet with a Mi3 there ).

Raced at Logan tonight (1.9.07 )
1st race – battery fell out after 1 lap.
2nd race – won that and set TQ.
    3rd race – 2nd behind Martin.
Qualified 2nd behind Martin and ahead of Karl and Brad Hall etc etc. Car was excellent. The lack of any tyre warmers was holding me back as teh first 5 laps every race was a skate around.
Final (8 min ) more cold tyres ended up 3rd behind Martin and Karl.
Ran a Lipo 2nd and 3rd heat without a recharge and only got 2000mah into it before the 8 min final but had no problem making it through the final.
A very good race meet. I heat of 540, 2 heats of stock and one heat of Gas.
See you all in 3 weeks I’m off to the land of the long white cloud.
