Stories from the world of RC car racing

Looks like Heavy finally lost the plot and went to mod.
Look here
or for a closer look
Itching to give it a run – maybe Saturday somewhere.
I have since run the motor in with the  Stock Class at Hobby Station as a test and found it to be very similar to drive and in speed and torque to a good stock motor. I will continue testing at Hobby Station and hopefully at Bayside. It is not my intention to try to force rule changes on any club but rather that we can be informed about the new technology and take part in a reasonable debate. Many clubs are allowing these motors either racing within stock or as a class on their own but usually running with the stock class, which seems to me a reasonable way to go.
If enough people want to run these motors then obviously clubs would need to look at providing for them – equally obviously not for one driver if that’s all there is.

Will be interesting to see how it compares to a regular stock motor. Cant wait to have a look.

Will these motors be made legal for events such as Nats etc?

Certainly not legal for the Nats or State Titles etc – not even for Interclub 3. It’s just an evaluation exercise at this stage and I won’t be pushing for any rule changes at club or other level. There are a lot of guys wanting to run them at club level though so not sure what is likely to happen. My take on it is that when I run it I will make sure the organisers, like say at Bayside, know I am running it so I won’t be getting club points or anything like that. We just want to see how it compares.
Anthony – senility has set in but not that bad, not the 3.5, Not till I’ve had a few years of driving experience – maybe I’ve left it too late !

I ran the motor in stock at Hobby Station for the first time – I could see no discernable difference between it and a good stock motor. Early days in the test program but for me I think it’s a great thing. New technology sure but without advances we’d still be running 12oo mah nicd and using wiper arm resistor speed controls.
Now let me repeat again for those who missed it. This motor is currently not legal for stock racing – and probably won’t be for some time at any sort of competition level. There are increasing numbers of clubs looking at allowing it (and the 4300 in 19t ) to run in teh stock class alongside regular stock motors – in some cases with a different club pointscore or whatever in other cases it’s just allowed. I am not pushing for it’s inclusion one way or another – just doing some testing so I can be informed when the debate starts.
