I know I am just one person but I am a bit nonplussed with these rules…

i think they aren’t a bad set of rules for vORTEC to trial in Victoria (and remember those of you who are contemplating a trip to the mighty Tasmanian Champs that we run vortec rules here in Tas).
They essentially deal with the ‘speed’ issues of the current classes being very fast (too fast…..that is the question?) but they don’t grapply with trying to manage/limit ESC performance in any way.
It will be interesting to see the response to these rules from victorian racers.

The only bit of them I don’t agree with is the drop in weight… don’t see the point mostly…
…though I did see the other day that Intellect has brought out a 1600mAh 40C Lipo which looks hard cased… its meant for 1/18 scale cars but it probably could be ROAR approved… it only weights 95grams and just might have enough capacity for a 21.5… but thats only my estimation based on what my 17.5 uses for a race…

    I wasn’t saying a 17.5 uses 1600mAh, I was making an estimation of what a 21.5 might use… but as I’ve never run a 21.5 I don’t really know…
Though its kinda scary hearing that a 17.5 can use 3000mA in a 6 minute race?

At the Vics we were running a full 10 minute practice run in modified and only using 4500 mah…

Sorry if this is a silly question. I’m only new to this.
Why cant we just extend the length of races to 10 minutes? Wouldn’t that force us to slow our cars down to we dont kill the speedy and motor?
They run 10 min in 1/8th why not start doing it in 1/10th?

Scott/Adrian…I think the differance with 17.5 now with the current speedys is I for one still mash the throttle but we have a lot more power than we used to and with current tecnology torque and RPM can be huge.In QLD the top 17.5 drivers are only about 1 second a lap slower than mod

I know the new speedies run a lot harder… I use a Tekin myself… but then I’ve been racing mainly 5 minute races recently and I think most QLD clubs run 6 mins now?

Chop….I think the biggest problemin 10 min races ie HEAT…in 17.5 we are sometimes at the temp limit in 6 min races

Thats what I mean. Would that not force you to be more conservitive with the gearing (slowing the car down) to make 10 minutes?

I agree there is a lot to like about the Vortec rules but what I like the most is that as of July all the victorians know what there rules are for 2011. They have 6 months notice – that’s fantastic – I wish the powers that think they run Qld racing could make a decision this far out and give us all time to buy what we need.
in Qld we will make the decision during the 10 second count down to the first race of the season – and AARCMCC will be even later. C’mon guys prove me wrong.
I would probably like to have seen something done about 540 in terms of a brushless alternative as well.

I’ve read on some of the U.S. forums that they are using 25.5…

WE are doing some testing with 25.5 and so far it seems a little bit quicker than a 540 – that’s with an open speedie.
