Speed Passion Stock Club Race Speedie and 17.5 combo.
I just purchased a Speed Passion CIRTIX Stock Club Race speed control and 17.5 motor combo to do some testing with. This is the speedy Speed Passion have released following the demand around the world for a non adjustable non programable speedie. I haven’t really looked at it yet but I’m led to believe that the only adjustment is to drag brake.
I don’t know if there will ever be a class for these in Australia but at around $150 for the speedie and motor they could be interesting – I’ll probably have an initial play with it tomorrow. It comes completely wired and with a 3 pin plug on the motor side and a Tamiya type plug on the battery side which will mean a little work for most people to deans or other plugs.
The motor is also non timing adjustable and comes with an interesting dust cover on the endbell – possibly useful for Offroad.
Anyway we’ll see.

Around $150 sounds like a good price, I’m kind of hoping they are a success, could be time I started looking for an electric chassis to have a play with…

Dave I would like to see this for stock 17.5 I feel spec classes need to be controled I love the new speedies we have but it’s not what the spec classes are about

yea I know what you mean I think the Tekin is fantastic and still looking forward to the new Speed passion software but I think it’s not spec racing anymore – this Cirtix speedie (and other brands to come) might bring that back.

I think we as drivers need to take a stance, if we want to get back to a proper spec class. Those who have turbo speedies can only use them in 10.5 and above, which at this stage as a tempory fix would mean non turbo and non timing speedies for stock. But we as drivers need to say NO as a majority. 😆 😆

I think that we will have to wait to some extent see what happens around the world. It seems Sydney are well down the track of testing some 21.5 combos with non adjustable speedies and motors to replace 540. These will be cheap – say 4150 for speedie and motor – around the same price as the Speed Passion I am testing. That’s fine for a Sportsman class but what to do then with 17.5 seems to be the debate – one 17.5 class with the same type fixed timing speedie and motor and then 17.5 open with teh new speedies and any 17.5 motor and then straight to mod. Personally I’d prefer it if we could get to 3 classes maximum as we don’t have the people for more.
I think though it’s very likely we will have
21.5 sportsman (speedie and motor from a list )
17.5 sportsman (speedie and motor from a list)
17.5 Open
Brushless Open (formerly called modified for some strange historic reason)

well Dave im going to push the clubs here to try to in force this controled speedy and motor. Some people might be upset because they like there tekins and lrp’s in 17.5 and 10.5 but its not what spec classes are about ”if they want to go faster then theres mod”.

If only 3 classes, which class do we scrap Mmmmm,…..17.5 sportsman or 17.5 open. I think we still need to keep a close eye on the difference of speed as you progress from one class to the next. Keeping in mind we need youngsters to progress over time and not hit a brickwall because the jump to the next class is too large. My view would be to keep our dollars to a minimum in the lower classes with tighter restrictions and leave our top class (Mod) as open, no restriction. Just my view. 😆 😆
Yes I agree. 3 classes.

Sounds like a good combo for an AGR F1 mmm , more pennies to save

Do we have another F1 in the ranks? Chow??? an AGR special???

Actually Chow that’s exactly what I was thinking – relatively cheap and quite small it would be good for F1.
I will try to get on the track with it in my TC on Wednesday night see how it goes.
Anyone race at Bayside today ?

Bayside was low in numbers today. With three race meets and rain forcast for today it was not a suprise. Sunny coast was cancelled and not sure what happened with Gold coast. Bayside we ran Gas and Electric. All gas together in one heat and all electric in the other heat. In electric we had 540’s, stock and Mod all in one race to make up 8 cars. We hade showers on and off untill 10.30, then weather cleared for all the die hards who stayed, to race. Heavy how was your St Helena outing. ❓

Thanks for that Tony – as I went through bayside area on my way to teh boat this morning it was raining and I wondered if you’d get any racing in.
The boat trip was good and the Island is a great source of history and very interesting glimpse into Brisbane life back then. The wife gave the guide too much cheek and he had her tied to the scaffold and whipped with the cat of nine tails. Tried to stop him but….. 😆 😆 😆

Yeah I totally agree with Clinton and Heavy. Another option is scrap 21.5 and just have novice 17.5 and open 17.5 and obviously open brushless (mod)
Do you think any major decisions will be made this year??

Not sure if any decisions will be made – i guess it will depend on how quickly ROAR and to a lesser extent AARCMCC make moves. There are some groups in NSW who are pushing for change ASAP but who really knows.

What changes are NSW pushing for, Heavy ❓ Are they trying to outlaw turbo speedies and bring stock back to where it was before the turbo and timing speedies ❓

Hi Tony. As far as I can tell the initial push is to get 21.5 in to replace 540 and with a new totally unadjustable speedie. So that means virtually all the speedies we used before the current ones would be out as well and it would be just the very basic speedies like the new Venom and the new Speed Passion etc – so no timing can be done from the speedie at all and none from the motor as well. I think they favour nominating one only combo that will be approved – I prefer the ROAR approach that will list speedies that are ok so there can still be some brands and brand loyalty available. The same speedie would then carry over to stock spec as well – just a change of motor to move up.

This option will give us 21.5, 17.5 sportsman, 17.5 open and Mod. At the moment we only have 3 classes and struggle with numbers at club level. What will be the go with stock classes ❓
LikeLike
Alternatively this option could give us 21.5 sportsman, 17.5 sportsman and mod – 3 classes

The only reason I ask, is because quiet a few of us have invested our money in th LRP speedies , which have all been sent back. If version III comes back and plays up, which class do we turn to next. What I mean is do we purchase a Tekin RS Pro, to find in 2 or 3 months the class has been banned, or do we go for the 17.5 sportsman option. Money can be wasted wilst governing bodies are umming and arring on what to do. I think my view is shared by many. A prompt decision is required.

easy answer tony……mod!

Fortunately for me (or unfortunately depending on how you see things) I don’t make those decisions or have a part in making those decisions any more (except agitating same as you Tony). I agree it’s a difficult time, I certainly won’t be throwing my Tekin away (not till Speed Passion get their new software sorted) and I’ll be using it and if that means mod then so be it I’ll learn to race mod with a Tekin and a 10.5, some tracks that combo will nearly be as competitive as I will ever be anyway, whatever motor I used, so what the heck. Maybe we will still have an open stock class I don’t know.
At the moment you can safely assume that nothing will change next week or soon, ORRCA have said nothing and probably haven’t given it any or much thought and the Interclub rules are usually set for the year and I don’t think any of the Brisbane clubs are thinking about it yet so I’d relax and get the LRP going if I was you – enjoy the three or four minutes till it starts cogging 😆 😆
If I was a betting man I’d say the first thing to change will be 540 – to 21.5 and the ROAR list for speedies with the old 540 motor still allowed for a changeover period. But I could loose my money.
