Looks like Logan are running a meeting on Saturday nite as well. Also Gold Coast might be running too…that is on Sunday. That would make it every club in SEQ running on the same weekend 😯

Some would call that “spoilt for choice” others would call it stupidity.

How sad it is to look in from afar and see what used to be a close and cooperative racing environment between clubs falling apart. Sad to see.

Scott, it troubles me too and it will change slightly, be it of little consequence… Sunny coast should soon flip to alternate weekend on Sundays due to their calendar schedule, but that isnt enough to solve the problem.
Friday nights at Brendale are very much a casual clubby with no club championship POINTS on offer and is intended to be a feeder for novices entering the sport. The atmosphere is casual and EP’s can join in to get some night racing. For newcomers there’s drivers like Jeff, TJK and others who find the time to help newcomers tune and setup whilst other members are being trained up in race control and Im in the canteen trying to keep everyone fed and make the mums happier for the youngsters and create a casual and social environment. (It aint about the $$). The notion that a dedicated TRAINING night has failed time and time again as newcomers dont want to sit and be taught theory, they want to get their new MODEL on track and learn from mistakes.
The ProTouring and 1/8th on the alternate week is focussed on more formal racing and is club championship points related. There is novice avaiable and it’s more aligned to them learning the ropes when it comes to all the formalities associated with RC events and for them to be amidst a faster calibre of drivers. In addition it’s the only opportunity for the 1:8 IC drivers to have some racing. I do feel sympathetic for them as there’s very little racing available for what is the fastest and premiere IC scale of them all.
To switch England park schedule would mean our club points event on the Sat/Sun would conflict with Bayside so that wont work. We need our Friday nights to create a channel to allow for new RC drivers to have the time to experience and allow them to slowly build their kits and introduce them to the ins and outs of racing and progress to the Points event in Sat/Sun.
I speak from experience as we would not have learnt enough if not for both the events at QRCCRA. We learnt the basic model motorsport skills on Fridays and learnt the finer racing and event skills on Saturdays. When considering whether to suggest a move to a monthly versus fornight.. The newcomers are eager and the 1:8ths have very little available on offer as an alternative to race. I will add, that if not for these two events at my own club, we would not have had the insight to be able to attend other meetings at other clubs and have the race/event experience to enjoy it. Being thrown in the deep end while people are RACE FACE:ON with little knowledge of the event schedule, scrutineering and rules is something that would have frustrated, more so than motivated and that’s not what I’d consider a good way to learn.
When I did the math and worked out how many events and how many weekends there were available, it really did become apparent that the schedule is full. Ive asked in the past for clubs to nominate one EP and one IC event each 6 months for us all to congregate and create a spectacular but seemed to be ignored. Probably becuase there’s very little time in the calendar to fit it in, Sunny Coast’s Enduro is still pending a date due to the calendar of events.
    Suggestions welcomed…

Logan is in a similar sitation. With both rain days and the first round of the Interclub falling on a Logan weekend.
We hope to catch up this weekend if rain will stay away.
The master 540 – SS – GT at Wynnum is also running on a Logan Weekend.
Lots of racing to make up.
Logan has not changed our flow. We race every two weeks (excepting Interclubs)
and we will try to catch up when we can.

Whilst the obvious “upcoming ORRCA event” is in focus, EP was quiet at Brendale but nothing short of spectacular.. Charlie from Mr Toys and Jeff from TracksideRC hooked up with Luke to put on a close driving exhibition. For most of the evening Jeff was training Luke in holding tight lines, and driving under pressure. Whilst Luke uses a basic Losi speedie and his car speed is slower, the art of holding a line under pressure and driving close haul with others is invaluable in the sport.
Later in the evening, Charlie joined in on the last final with Jeff and using Luke as a pace car all three were swapping and changing positions within a of metre of each other for the whole five minutes. Driving three abreast around the first corners and onto the back straight the exhibition from Jeff and Charlie was nothing short of a great demonstration of skill and the best of RC spirit.
After the 5 minutes, the three set off onto the long track, and as Ive tried it myself, taking an EP car through the back straight sweep is one of the sweetest things Ive seen of late. For those who want to explore their high speed handling of their EP’s, it’s definitely worth a go.
In summation, a club is only as good as it’s members and the atmosphere created by them. What Jeff and Charlie achieved last night was an excellent example of driver training for newcomers to witness and they set a standard of driving excellence that was not focussed on a win, but more a contribution to RC as a whole from these top runners to the new comers in the sport. There’s a time and place for it, and thats obvious, it’s a rare opportunity as well as we all know, when RACE FACE:ON, it’s all about getting out of their way. For Luke, it’s nights like these that fulfill his RC experience to allows him to enjoy participation when the “BIG BOYS” are playing for keeps.

I’m not sure the focus is on the Upcoming ORRCA event. In more years than I care to remember (or in fact CAN remember) I’ve never seen less focus or interest in a State Title event. I suppose the threat of rain had something to do with it but there were precious few people at Bayside last night practicing for the event and with a day to go till entries close and only 21 entries in the box it’s not exactly looking like a block buster.
Personally think it’s time ORRCA had a hard look at the way they are doing things and maybe go back to the time proven method of only having one weekend a year for State Titles. The end of September weekend could easily host Titles for all classes with the numbers we have these days.

Very surprising to read.., and to think I was pondering over coming out to bayside after the drizzle got the better of us at Chargers… Odd… perhaps everyone’s just saving some coins.. There were 12 – 16 at brendale.. 6 regulars a couple of new faces and EP bikes.. so not sure whats going on..
Chargers images at beachmums site, gimme a PM if you want some of them in hi res.
Guy wanted his last chance run before Rugby tour in NZ…
