Mi4 LP

Today we start looking at Mi4LP stuff. There are a few guys happily running the Mi4 and not wanting to go a new kit just yet. I am looking at some of the most obvious upgrades that those people might want to do. The question I have been asked the most concerns the battery brace – there are some among us who don’t want to use tape for the batteries and we had fallen in love with the battery brace and posts used on the Mi4 – the question has been “Can I still use my battery brace” and the answer is a resounding YES.
Here are a couple of pics to prove it.

Are they balancing holes in the chassis fr and rr or something else ?

I think they are balancing holes – to go with the new core balancing tools/kit.

I fitted the new chassis onto my Mi4 tonight and the new LIPO locator. Unfortunately I need different servo mounts to mount the servo which I don’t have yet. Something else to change for a full conversion to LP.
Also have to change the LH layshaft mount and the layshaft at some stage in my progress towards a full conversion.
Then the black pulleys – not sure I’ll bother with that, we’ll see.

The chassis does have balancing holes – Schumacher have developed a balancing Jig for teh new chassis and we will have them in stock soon.
Stay tuned as we look at other new aspects of the new LP

I heard that a top QLD driver was recently drugged and woke up the next day with a new Mi4LP kit next to him in bed. 😆

Yes it’s true Anthony is building up Mi4LP – but no drugs.
Leonard is also building one and Adrian Beggs is building one for Bob Scott.
Oh yes forgot to mention Clinton is also building one as his weapon of choice for an assault on Mod.
I am doing a conversion on my Mi4 and ….well I can’t let out all the secrets about who else is making a move.
I think we might see a RACE version going around in 540 a bit as well

My workbench is clear and ready for my Mi4lp sometime in 2010. 😉
My nats Mi4 has gone on to a new home, ready to dominate racing in hobart.

Maybe we should change the name of racing in SEQ to Schumacher country. It’s an invasion from the Brits, infecting multiple racers at a time…Hell up here at the Shed we have 6 of them drifting around ( They make great drift cars too) plus two more in pit boxes, as dedicated race cars.. It’s a pandemic … 😀 😀

So far the people building the new cars remain enthusiastic, fit and finish seems to be a step up from the Mi4 – we might get to see how they go this weekend as well.

very happy with the new car this weekend.
started out with grainger’s new mendip setup from the back of the manual, found the initial steering to be a bit too agressive for my liking at logan. so i started changing it back towards the setup i had been running on the standard mi4. the rain cut that short at logan last night, so kept playing around with it today up at sunny coast. pretty much ended up back at our nats setup (see scotty g’s sheet under the setup section) with the exception of 1.5mm spacing of front toe block width, hpi silvers all around and 40wt oil.
the new car just seems to hold in to the apex a bit more, which is great. ended up doing the fastest times i’ve done at SC in a long time, despite the track having degraded a bit.

Managed to fit the servo using the old Mi4 servo posts after all. Just need 4mm of spacers on the rear mount.
Built a RACE (that’s the cheap version) up and will give it a run in the 540 V8 Challenge at Logan this weekend (16th Jan) and then maybe a run in stock the week later at Bayside – see how it goes.
Went together well major differences are the plate parts are all S1 not carbon. The driveshafts are plastic (like we allways used in the Mi2etc ) and the shocks are the old style with a new one piece piston.
Looking at what is required to upgrade the shocks – shock towers fr and rr and a set of new shocks.
Looking forward to running it next weekend.
