Stories from the world of RC car racing

Tonight was the first race night under the new committee and it was a great start, good fields in all classes and good racing as well.
I think there were 21 gas cars and about 25 Ep cars.
As those pitting around me can tell I was tickled pink with the performance of my Mi4 tonight – in particular the motor/speed performance – I went down 3 teeth on the pinion from where I have been running and found the sweet spot. Managed an 18 lapper and a TQ but couldn’t keep Brad Palmer behind me in the final – real good racing.
Think the guys in the other classes had fun too.

I actually did have a better night than what I have had for ages but also realize that there were pointy end guys missing who normally run stock.

One of the indisputable truths is that we just don’t have enough rc drivers in South East Qld to run extra classes. If you run Super Stock either stock or mod (or both) suffer. We really don’t have enough EP drivers to run three classes (540 stock and mod) and when you make into 4 classes without any extra people it’s simply waters the other classes down. END

Heavy, from the Nat’s to this weekend your driving outta your skin!!! The new car surely is bounding with you nicely, Well Done. So are the plans already in place for competing in next years Nat’s??
    Re: SOAPBOX
Couldn’t agree more Heavy!! SE Qld has been like this for many years. Reduced classes offered at club level would only strengthen competition (2 or 3 heats/class) and build a drivers talent for future State and National events.
Probably worth starting another thread to bring out further discussion… maybe???

Its looking that way Heavy, I might not have a choice but to bolt the 17.5 back in as 540 and Stock are the two heavy weights at the moment.

even at the nats, with all those entries, it just seemed like a class taking people out of stock and mod.
without it the potential was there for another heat of mod and stock would’ve been pretty epic.
stock is meant to be about close racing with controlled motors, super stock just seems to run against the core principal of the class by diluting the field.
i’ve got nothing against it at the interclubs as its not being held on the same day as stock or mod. it gives the option for people from those classes to meet in the middle and have an extra day of racing if they want it.
however at other meets where all classes are running on the same day.. a class for beginners, a class for the masses and an open class is the only way to go imho.
