This inaugural event has been run and won this weekend at the Logan City RCCC. A two day event with F1 and 540 on Saturday and followed by Stock and mod on Sunday.
The first Qld Title event for F1 for some years this proved a popular class and the racing was sensational.
The 540 racing was also very competitive and showcased the talents of several drivers who raced as their swan song to the class with a move to stock on the books.
Stock was a showdown between the top stock drivers in the state and a mod driver dropping back for a bit of fun. Also a couple of the young 540 guns made their debut appearance in the class – good to see Mitchell and Chris giving it a red hot go.
In mod there was a fair mix of experience and new to mod guys having a go.
The event was run to a different format which featured more racing (6 races for everyone ) than qualifying (2) and which allowed everyone in the field the chance to win, not just the A finalists.
The event will become an annual event and will take the chance to feature innovative styles of racing.
The big winners and now Qld Independant Champions are
F1
Martin Nichols, Adrian Beggs, Grant MacDonald
540
Chris Sturdy, Gerard Henry, Chase Gregory
Stock
Tim Weier, Martin Nichols, Clinton Livingstone
Modified
Anthony Atack, Leonard Lai, Corey Broadstock.
Congratulations to the winners and well done to all who chased.
