Stories from the world of RC car racing

We raced F1 today – 14 cars, 14 happy drivers.
We checked out the Chargers Onroad track at Toowoomba – nice grass roots facility on 2 netball courts in Highfields, happy friendly club.
We witnessed the launch of the AGR a new locally designed and built F1 car, available soon as a full car (saddle or stick ) or as a rear pod conversion for a Corally or Tamiya etc. There were two prototypes running today – one had it’s front end damaged in a collision with Heavy and the other took out second place – not bad for a first track test – watch out for these ones.
The racing in F1 was quite frantic and sometimes close but in the end Big Mac took the TQ from Martin and Bob – these 3 looked the goods all day really. Big Mac had a dnf in one leg of the finals but bounced back with a FTD in the last leg. Overall it was Martin 1st Bob 2nd and Grant 3rd. So that’s Corally, AGR, Corally, Tech, then 6 more Corally’s.
I had a mixed day with the Tech – ended up qualifying 6th and ran out 4th in the finals. The car is good but gee the plastics are soft I broke 2 front wings, 1 rear wing and a front stub axle today. Still 4th in a field of top quality cars is not too bad (and looking at the drivers I couldn’t have expected to finish much better whatever car I was driving) – several times today though I was wishing I still had a Tamiya F103.
The second round of the F1 world titles takes place at Logan on 4th July – get a car before then and join the fun – the F1’s are fantastic around Logan.

For those who are interested in such things I ran the following
Speed Passion Exige 2 Speed Control – sensorless.
Speed Passion 17.5 brushless stock motor.
    Roll out 70mmpr.
    Core 3250 LIPO
Timing, punch and brake settings all set fairly low on speedie.
The car had plenty of speed, enough punch and was very nice from a motor/power perspective. Used about 1100 mah in a 8 minute race.
    All good.
