Amongst us there are some that remember the 1989 Worlds at St Ives in Syndey. Amongst us there are some that were even there to watch the event – propping up the corner of the fence for 10 days of non-stop rc action of an absolutely top calibre.
Also I spent hours in the shed near the track, which was being used for the pits at whatever that meet was – Nationals or NSW Titles in some year – building the first CAT 2000 in Australia (no instructions just the exploded diagram and a plastic bag full of loose parts – now that was fun) while the race meet was in full progress – we didn’t get it finished in time and Scott had to race the Bosscat.
The track – 20 years later is still there in the same spot as it was then but not for long, the St Ives club are about to get a completely new track built – great news I suppose but oh, the memories.
On 14th February (date to be confirmed) there will be one last chance to run the old cars around St Ives when the club will hold a vintage meet of some sort.
I can’t think of many reasons to visit Sydney these days 😆 😆 but this could be the best reason I’ve heard of for some time – cheap flights to Sydney early Sat morning, hire car for the day, cheap flight home that night – pretty easy – pretty cheap – I’ll check with Jen and consult my Google Calendar but it sounds like a plan.
OOOOOOPS – I don’t have a vintage car except the HotShot and its a re-re. 💡 I’ll have to get a RC10.
