Victorian EP on-road governing body VORTEC are the first Australian association to recognise what we all know – that LiPo is now king for the vast majority, and a 1525gram weight limit makes little sense.
For 2009 VORTEC have announced a weight limit of 1425 grams.
They’ve also joined the rest of the country in announcing that Stock brushless motors will follow the 17.5 turn rule, and Super Stock will be 10.5. VORTEC have differed in not insisting on ROAR approval, and in allowing option rotors to be used.
Personally, I like the weight change, and I reckon we should be heading that way everywhere – perhaps by the middle of 2009. I’m not so sure on leaving motors a little more open – though it probably makes scrutineering a little easier.
Be interesting to see how it plays out, and whether ORRCA Queensland, the Interclub series, or AARCMCC (National) follow suit.

I agree with the weight and hope QLD and AUS follow, just makes sense with lipo’s now the norm.
Regarding the motor issue, is the 10.5 motor’s bonded rotors or sintered? I hope they are sintered as mod is dying off I think a class with a little more oomph than 19 turn would be great and would provide a decent step up from stock without having the effect mod has on the cars wear and tear wise.
Not sure about the allowance of any rotors though.

The 10.5 is sintered – there are very few if any bonded rotors these days – it’s a ghost of the past best forgotten.

I for one am in favour of the rule changes VORTEC have implemented for 2009.
Cars can be easily run at that weight without the need to go out and buy expensive hop-up or optional lightweight parts.
As far as the motor is concerned, any rotors in my opinion just gives the user ‘tuning’ options. There are only a limited number of rotor options available for any given motor brand. And from my personal experience in mod with different rotor sizes, there is a difference between rotors within a brand, but once you find out which one to use, all the other rotor options are not required.LikeLike

My view is that Super STock and Stock are control classes and the standard rotor is the cheapest and best way to go.
Modified is different and that’s where people can throw money at finding teh best rotor for them etc etc. Leave teh stock classes box stock – weights I dont care either way – very happy with teh present rules and see no need to change really.LikeLike

We definately need to look at the weight issue prior to the interclubs and hopefully have it changed in time. Will need to get the drill out on the tub chassis thats for sure.
