The news is, the votes are in and from 1st October LIPO will be allowed in the modified class for AARCMCC events (both on-road and off-road).
This weekend’s Queensland Championships will be the last of the 5 cell modified tourer events across Australia.

I believe that the decision also means that for AARCMCC events, LiPo is now legel for spec classes as well – effective immediately.

Youll find the numbers for stock probably wont go down Phil, its more competitive than mod IMO and a lot more forgiving on your car, I cant remember the last time I had so many probs with my car since starting mod, loctite has now become my most important pit tool lol

vazzo that entirely depends on how you define “competitive”. If you mean ‘hard to win’, then mod is definitely more competitive than stock. Winning races in modified is very, very hard when you are racing against the best the sport has to offer.
The fact remains, that modified represents the pinnacle of the sport. That is in no way a put down to stock, and the guys that race stock (and love it). Stock is very competitive, and very enjoyable racing. Modified however, is the pinnacle, and is the hardest class to win.
I reckon everybody should have at least one red hot go at modified – just that patience is required as wins won’t come quickly or easily.
If you are wanting to try mod with LiPo batteries, stay away from 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 turn motors. 4.5 turn would be the maximum you would need – and even that would be overkill at most tracks and for most drivers. I’d recommend starting out in mod with a 6.5 turn motor while you learn about driving and tuning the car with bulk horsepower (much harder than in stock). When you are on top of that task, then try a 5.5 turn motor.
LiPo should make modified more accessible, but it still remains a big challenge.LikeLike

I think this is fantastic news. I think you will find the modified competitor lists will start to re-grow as they were when Lipo first became accepted. I know there were quite a few (myself included) that left mod because of the added costs of keeping 5 cell packs at peak performance.
I absolutely loved my short stint in mod and Ill now be back in that class as much as possible, that is of course when I can get back to racing fullstop
With lipo and brushless, mod is now more accessable than it has ever been and the cars these days are quite capable of handling mod racing. As Scott mentiooned, mod is very difficult and a big learning curve, but it is absolutely awesome fun.

Great post Scotty… people need to be reminded of the days of the 540 Cup at the old Gold Coast Off-road track eh… 😉
We had a one day event with all Mod, Club Spec and 540 drivers all congregated for a one off event “Everyone had to run a 540 stock motor” … 😯
The sledging was fierce but all in good fun as the Mod drivers searched around for a decent previously discarded 540 motor 😕 . The 540 guys were soo excited saying “great.. now we’ll show them all having to race our motor” 😛
Unfortunately, as said in an old saying
“Cream always rises to the Top…”
The A final was filled with Mod drivers and the 540 (specialist) were condemned to the lower finals… 😡
Mod is where both your skill in car setup and your ability to wheel a car around a track is truly tested!! The END…. (Sorry 😦 )LikeLike
