The TYRE and battery maze.
There appears to be a few new drivers around wanting to run the Qld Titles for the first time this year and some seem to be a bit confused about the tyre rules. The split up between ORRCA and AARCMCC for this years event makes it even more confusing with one system for 540 and Stock and a completely different system for Modified.
Novice (540) and Stock – ORRCA system.
You will be required to purchase your own tyres, inserts and wheels and glue them up and present them for impounding before racing starts – preferably on the Friday at latest early Saturday morning. These will be marked with your number etc and kept in the impound. You can submit up to a maximum of three sets but can only have one set out of the impound at any time during qualifying. Once the qualifying is finished you can have all your sets out and you can mix and match from all sets for the finals. If you only wish to have one set for the event thats fine but once racing starts you can not submit any more tyres. Only Sorex 36 tyres can be used.
540 will also use a control motor which will be supplied at a cost to each competitor – it will be the grey can Johnson cat#583.
Modified.
Tyres, inserts and wheels will all be controlled and will be supplied at a set cost.A maximum of 3 sets per competitor may be purchased for the qualifying. A further 2 sets will be available to drivers in the A final or they may use 2 sets of their qualifying tyres if they wish which will be remarked. Tyres will be Sorex 36 and inserts will be Sorex C medium but rims are not yet announced but will be within days. Drivers electing not to buy 3 sets before the start may not change their minds after racing starts and similarly drivers electing not to but their 2 sets for the finals may not change their minds after finals racing starts.
Batteries
Novice (540) and Stock
6 cell NIMH up to 4600 mah or LiPO as per the ORRCA or ROAR lists may be used.
Modified
5 cell NIMH only from the AARCMCC approved battery list
The novice class (540) has the following limitations on drivers eligible
“2.1.1.6 If driver/entrant has placed in the top 3 of any ORRCA QLD or AARCMCC sanctioned event, regardless of class or scale, the driver/entrant is not eligible for this class.”
There is no age limitation or requirement.

I dont think too many drivers should be confused by the tyre rules as most that will run Mod have run under the AARCMCC rules before. If they haven’t they should aquaint themselves with the rule book. Hopefully next year we can all run Lipos and forget the NiMh batteries for good

You would think that but believe me there is plenty of confusion around judging by the people that talk to me.

1.1.1.2. Motor timing must be (keyed into the end bell) fixed at 24 deg.
1.1.1.3. Motor Cans must have a maximum of two magnets only.
1.1.1.4. Brushes and brush hood will be lay-down configuration only.
    1.1.1.5. No End-bell modifications allowed.
    1.1.1.6. Brush springs are open.
1.1.1.7. Brushes shaping or modifying to allow timing advancement is prohibited.
1.1.1.8. Brush serrations and cavities are permitted but full face outline must remain.

The Bayside club will run their annual BAYSIDE CUP on the Sunday prior to the Qld Titles. This will be the perfect chance to get a fair dinkum knock em down drag em out hit out for the titles for the electric guys and a great chance for non regulars to get a run on teh track under hard race conditions.

Novice and Stock drivers please note – you have to supply your own tyres (Sorex 36). At the moment I have plenty at $10 per pair but don’t leave it till the last minute.

Yes – you can use LIPO in Novice – ORRCA decided this back in July but by an oversight the web site wasn’t updated – it should be now. Thanks to those who pointed this oversight out.

    Vazzo,
Hot bodies has little chance as Anthony has switched to a Bentray (cos his wrenching skills are letting him down and needs a car with pre-built shocks and diff 🙄 ), and my Clone thou sold to an excellent driver will sadly not be attending the event. AE on the other hand has 3 solid chances with Mr Abbott, Scotty K and Swallow 😆 , all should be in attendance… 😀
Hope it’s well supported and everyone has a great time at the event and the racing is hard and fair!! Will be looking for the latest updates as time gets closer… 😉

Seems to me it’s just about time to start making some random predictions for the 2009 Qld EP Onroad Championships. We’re a long way off a final entry list, but don’t let that stop you!
I propose that for this year’s tipping competition, the challenge is to nominate one winner, one dark horse, and one first time A finalist. Given that I have no idea about novice, I’ll not go there.
    Stock:
    Winner: Chris Shevelling
    Dark Horse: Martin Nichols
First time A Final: Andrew Lyons
    Modified:
    Winner: Anthony Atack
    Dark Horse: Kirby Masterman
First time A Final: Scott Kirchner

I’m having a bit of trouble finding out information,
    a) will traction compound be allowed
    b) where are we allowed to pit surrounding the track
    c) where are we allowed to park our cars
    thanks

I’m pretty sure the club will direct you all where to park and pit etc.
My guess is park in the car park between the road and the track or up on the rise toward the trains – there are no trains that weekend so parking shouldn’t be a problem.
Pit in the covered pit area or bring a shade tent a pit on the level grassed area at the mug handle end.
Traction compound can be used for the Titles.

Note to all using LIPO in Novice540 or Stock. You have to use a low voltage cut out, you have to charge in a LIPO sack of somesort and you have to use hard case batteries that are listed on either the ORRCA list or the ROAR list. Also if you are using brushless motors in stock they must be 17.5 motors that are specifically listed on the ROAR list. If in doubt check at the Bayside Cup.

So I wonder is the onus on the racer to prove that our gear is legit? does it mean I have to provide, receipts, manuals or anything for all my gear?

    Like

  33. heavy Avatar

You just have to race with stuff that is on the motor and battery list etc etc.
The onus is always on the racer to comply with the rules.

I might just list what I have, to save any headaches on the day,
Stock – Speed Passion 17.5, Novak XBR Speedy with Lipo Cutoff – Orion Platinum 4800 Lipo
540 – Harris RC 3200 hardcase lipo, Novak GTX, Novak smart stop
I think it’s alright but I just want to check

    Like

  35. heavy Avatar

You will still need to submit to teh scrutineers on teh day and anything I say here is just my opinion.
The speed controls are open so there’s no problem there. You have LIPO cut offs so thats fine.Battereis are both on the ROAR list so they are ok provided the case isn’t modified in any way and they are identifiable. The SP 17.5 is fine also provided it’s not modified in any way.
You just have to worry about weights and measures now.

    See rule 2.8.5.10
2.8.5.10 Must be used with electronic speed control that has a either a inbuilt cut-off or used with an external cut-off device installed (6volts minimum).

So here we are, just over a week out. What are the questions to be answered next week…..
    1. Can anybody beat clinton?
    2. How will the scrutineers keep their heads straight while managing one set of rules for Novice and Stock, and another set for modified?
    3. Will this be the last state championship race for 5-cell mod in Australia?
    4. Can Anthony Atack draw ahead of Peter Dooley in the State Championship count? 😯
    5. How will i survive not being there? 😦

2.1.1.6 If driver/entrant has placed in the top 3 of any ORRCA QLD or AARCMCC sanctioned event, regardless of class or scale, the driver/entrant is not eligible for this class
Is the SE QLD Interclub a AARCMCC or ORRCA affiliated meet? If so would this rule top 3 place getters out of this class?

    Robert…
I think ORRCA only holds 2 sanctioned meetings a year…Qld On-Road and Qld Off-Road Titles. So I think you are safe if you haven’t travelled down south for a Title meet or I guess competed in a Nitro sanctioned event as well.
Make that 3 for ORRCA I guess…forgot the Qld Gas Titles coming up.
Some correct me if I am incorrect.
