Stories from the world of RC car racing

If you’ve been around awhile you’ll remember how much fun we used to have racing F1 cars with a 540 motor back then – so item one on my wish list is this rerelease by Tamiya
My finger has been hovering over the “buy button” all the week.
Second has also got to do with nostalgia – but this one is from even further back – awesome. IF this link doesn’t take you straight to the Datsun 510 then click on 1/10 M car kit and scroll down till you get to an awesome Datsun 1600 kit. I fancy running that in 540 at Bayside.
There’s more but I’ll save them for another day – we don’t want too much drooling.
Anyone else interested in F1 at Bayside ?

F1 sounds like a lot of fun…RWD only or any F1?

The F1 cost about $140 landed Brisbane from CHAMP , fully ballraced, adjustable rear ride height and the lightweight diff set with wings and body – I bags red.

I prefer F1 cause I know how much cheap fun they are. The classics would be around $200 landed I think.

    F1 sound good 😀 .
I caught last weeks Top Gear episode where Hammond ‘attempted’ two laps in a real F1 car and it reminded me of my cheap Indy car sitting on the shelf begging for a run… 😎

Anything that would get you to Bayside, Dave, would be a definite goer.

Yeah F1 sounds great! I knew I kept my old Corally for a reason.
MMM Core 5000 LiPo in a F1, that could be an interesting fit.

But the 1/5 scale electric motorcycles race on the same Sunday as Bayside 😥 (It is a pity Gilston won’t swap to the opposite sunday.)
The next big question is will a lipo fit in the F1. Will we need to adjust the weight limit since there is no room to add weight to the chassis?
I do like the new Corally F1 😀 I liked and enjoyed the old one too but the new one looks even better.

MMmmmm Tamiya F1. I’ve still got my old Ferrari F103 at home somewhere. Was surprised when i found the Orion 3600 lipo fits like a glove – they must have forseen the future of lipos 😀
I know this dirt racer is keen to try some onroad action again one day. I always liked the looks of the GT bodies on the F103 chassis along with rubber tyres. That should have made for an exciting but low maintenace (read:setup) class. Not sure if this off roader can deal with the intricacies of touring car setups… 😛

The CORE 3250 will fit perfectly in a F103 and probably a Corally and you wouldn’t need any more battery than that – we could use 540 or Sport Tuned or the brushless equivalent Exige speedie and motor package for about $140 – easy seeing teh F1 don’t put too much pressure on teh ESC and we don’t have to worry about being ROAR approved or anything like that.
I reckon we target a start after the Qld Titles are over for a bit of relief from the pressure. Probably be able to get a race if we have 5 drivers or more.

Yep – think I’ll get a F1 and see how it works – just for some light relief after the titles. Even for before racing and during the lunch break it could be a goer.
See if I can get a Mark Weber paint job done. Imagine how long a 3250 LIPO is going to run for with a 540 motor in a 2wd F1.

you could have proper f1 style single lap qualifying, and then just one 20 minute race at the end of the day (or do the whole lot during the 30 minute lunch braek!)

Think you can get the Tamiya F1 on foams or rubbers but the Corally would obviously be on foams so I guess we obviously go for foams all round – my F1 is coming with foams anyway.
Think I’ll start with an old Novak I have on the shelf and a ex Shane Hyde winning, stuffed, 540 motor I have and a 3250 CORE LIPO.

Bodies include body and drivers head only – wings are seperate.
Available (I think) There are F style M style and W style and high nose types.
    Decals are available seperately.
