Stories from the world of RC car racing

Now that I can’t go to Tamworth naturally I am looking around for something else to do and guess what – Bayside is it.
I hear on the grapevine that there will be quite a crowd of EP racers at Bayside on Sunday so sounds good to me – start some serious testing with the Speed Passion motors and Speedie.
Might finally get to race the gas tourer as well.

AARCMCC want us to do some testing at the Off road titles, I thought I’ll get some knowledge on using the meter at a race meeting.
So far my testing has reveled some consistent results with the three 17.5’s I’ve tested.
Also testing a bonded rotor 13.5 and changing the rotor to a sintered, the bonded was close to a 17.5 and the sintered was close to my SS4300.

Well if it rains we can always sit around in the pits and have a coffee have a look at everyone elses gear and tell a few lies for a couple of hours and lament that we didn’t go to Tamworth where it is fine.

I haven’t tested the different connected or not, something I was hoping to do, they tell me it doesn’t mater.
The meter is just like a multimeter, you clip it on two of the three stator terminals and it tests the magnetic field and stator windings.

What an amazing day – the RC fraternity would have to compose teh greatest bunch of Optimists I have ever come across. At 7am this morning they were all arriving at Bayside as though teh sun was shining – it wasn’t – and to be honest things didn’t look all that promising.
We finally got racing under way about 10 and the 28 of us that braved the elements were rewarded with a great day of racing – 3 heats and a final for everyone and no rain all day – as I said quite amazing.
From an electric point of view there was a small heat of 540 – all beginners which is good to see and a few more lining up to join them as well over the next few weeks.
Stock, as usual was quite strong on quality and had 12 entries. The highlight was to be Adrian Beggs finally making his comeback – the new Mi3 looked fantastic totally in black and purple – under the bodyshell.
It was a great debut for Adrian and the Mi3 – 3 heat wins for TQ and then an all the way win in the final 6 seconds clear of Heavy and a further 2 seconds back to Bob.
The 8 car final was made up of 5 Mi3, 2 Corally and 1 lone TC5.
The top 3 finalists all ran Mi3 / Core / Speed Passion.
On the way home I started thinking about the Qld Titles in Stock – the mind boggles at the potential for some great racing – Keith, Shev, Adrian, An unnamed Tasmanian driving Heavy’s Mi3, Martin and all the rest – I get the feeling that just making the A might be a major achievment. Bring it on.
Thanks to all the guys in stock today for a great day.

More accurately the top three finalists all ran Mi3 / Core / Speed Passion 17.5 motors. The top 2 ran Speed Passion Speed Controls and third ran a LRP speed control.
Whatever – we all had a lot of fun.
