The 2008 Summer Nats, the traditional season opener for EP and GP on-road is just 5 days away. Commencing with three nitro class on Saturday (Open, Pullstart and Sport), the event wraps up on Sunday with three more classes – this time for EP tourers (Invitational, Open Brushless, and Rebuildable Stock).
The Invite class will be something special, with Australia’s best taking on some of the world’s best EP touring drivers. Open Brushless will also be seriously competitive – with our own Peter Dooley and Scott Guyatt tackling a competitive field. We’ll try to bring you updates throughout the weekend – but failing that check back here next Sunday night late for all the news.
If you know of any other Queensland drivers heading down to the event, drop a comment here and we’ll report back on their progress as well.

Scott will be racing my Mi3 at the Summer Nats which has meant he has had to give it a complete rebuild to fix all the bends and breakages and strange adjustments that have somehow got onto the car over the last few months.
This means of course that I should get the car back in fine shape and perfectly tuned and ready to go – super.

At the end of qualifying Peter (Hot Bodies) and Scott (Mi3) are in the A final in 6th and 7th.
In the invitational so far Ari Bakla is in the box seat in the Corally but with a few rounds left to go anything could happen. Simon Nicholson seems to be the fastest but needs a clean run – he is off the front row for the next race so should get a good run then.LikeLike

Ari Bakla won the 2008 Summer Nationals Invitational class from Simon Nicholson, and (I think) Surikarn).
In the 5-cell Brushless class that Peter and I raced, we both exhibited moments of brilliance (unfortunately I exhibited quite a few moments of ordinariness as well) on our way to 6th (PD) and 7th (SG). Troy Loughlin picked up the win.
In rebuildable Stock, Luc Botton drove his Schumacher Mi3 to yet another win.

Com’on Scotty… you drove pretty well. Especially when you consider Ryan Maker and yourself were the only ones never to put a car on that track before (to my knowledge), and you had one practise run on Sunday morning on a wet track. Your competitiveness was outstanding and impressive. Well done…. 🙂
