Stories from the world of RC car racing

Just days to go, and we thought it might be time to preview some of the action at this weekend’s Interclub race meeting. If you are not yet entered, you are not too late – grab the “Interclub” link above, find the entry form and e-mail your details to the GCMR club….and be there to race on one of Australia’s best tracks.
Now for the opinions…
This weekend the GP classes are looking like being the highlight. With big numbers and big names, the action in the noisy classes should be intense.
In Gas Tourer I’m going to go out on a limb and pick Martin Nichol as a possible first time winner. Martin hasn’t done a lot of nitro racing – but has been fast every time. If he can get a handle on the track, and has sufficient horsepower on the long back straight, he might just spring a suprise. Perennial favourites Jason Dorn (if he makes it on Saturday) and Sunshine Coast’s Peter Giblin would be the others to watch.  How about dark horse local Bob Vardy?
When Pro Tourer rolls around on Sunday, I expect Jason Dorn to be on top. I don’t think he’ll have it all his own way though, with Tak Woo, Peter Giblin and just maybe Daniel Morris likely to be fast on the Gold Coast circuit.
In the electric classes, there is also a lot to look forward to.
540 will be a battle between Chris Hyde, Tristian Hyde and Shane Mostyn. I’m picking Chris.
Rebuildable Stock looks like a tight field and a chance of a first-time winner. Guys like Jason Wakefield, Johnny Hyde, Tim Weier and Bob Vardy will be big chances on Sunday. For a dark horse, keep one eye on Heavy D.
With Anthony Atack yet to enter for 19 Turn, the field is wide open. If Anthony doesn’t get there, I think we are looking at a battle between Drew Crawley and John Perkins. Other podium contenders include Jason Wakefield and Aaron Fryer.
Modified is also somewhat open. With Atack, Lai and Dooley preparing for the Nats the following week and possibly not entering for the GC race, there could be some new winners. How about Keith Mackrill making a return to the winners circle in modified? He’ll have to get past Andrew Shapland, Drew Crawley and John Perkins – who will all be keen to secure a big win.  Dark horse here? Jeff Hamon definitely has the skills to take a first EP modified win…
There is a lot to like about this race meeting. Excellent track, competitive field and a great day out. See you there…
PS: I reserve the right to alter my tips as the entry list shapes up…

I would have to add you (Scott) to the list of potentials in Mod after your drive at Logan. If you drive like that this weekend, I would say you won’t be far off the number one position.
    Cheers

I’d be adding Scott as well and also Martin. In Gas tourer I’d be picking John Tainton and Hasham as good chances.

    My picks…..
    Stock Electric
    Where is Karl?????
    barring that omission, see below….
    1) Tim Weier
    2) Jason Wakefield
    3) Bob Vardy
    Mod:
There’s are at least 5 guys that will be fighting it out for the places; Keith Mackrill, Jeff Hamon, Martins Nichols, Drew Crawley, & John Perkins. My picks are below, but these could easily be swapped out by the other 2 I left out… (it’s that close). JP’s in great form lately and Keith & Jeff drove really, really well the last time they were at this track for competition (be it in stock).
    1) John Perkins
    2) Keith Mackrill
    3) Jeff Hamon
    Pro tourer (Open nitro)
    Picks…
Wouldn’t have a clue really, but my guess will be whoever doesn’t stall, flame-out, or get hacked out, lol… : p (sry Jason, hehehe)
