The BRCA has just approved 1425 and EFRA are about to vote on 1400 (but will probably approve 1425 as well) so it might be time ORRCA made a move to change their current 1375 for 5 cell to 1425 as well – sooner rather than later before people spend a fortune trying to get down to it.

We should keep 6 cell (and LIPO if ever ) at the current weight and have 5 cell at 1425 and drop 4 cell – IMO

Li-po at the same weight (1525g) in stock class
is not as good performance, you most notice it in the first few laps of a race when every one with ni-mh’s batts are like resting at above 8volts when peaked.
thats why a lot of guys have to run underweight with li-po and gear up a bit. (mainly noticable in stock i would assume)

I believe it depends very much on what LIPO you have v/s what Nimh you have. My LIPO is better at all stages of the race than my best Nimh. IMO they should be at the same weight as NIMH.

I personally would like the weight limit to be set at 1425grams (with P/T equipment). However, if it never changed, I could manage the current weight limit – without having to go to extremes.LikeLike

My car (Mi3) weighs as follows without the lightweight bulkheads and with a battery brace (which I could ditch in favour of tape ) with GTB and Brushless etc
LIPO -1400
5 cell – 1485
6 cell – 1565
To run the LIPO I am going to have to add a massive 120 grm.LikeLike

i have went to li-po as two years of not racing i ask what would be the best and li-po’s seem to be the way to go but im having troubles with my tc5 as it is very unballances so i do have to add 120grm to get it where i need it

Clinton. At the moment teh only club that has approved LIPO is Logan so you can only do club racing with them. Probably in 2008 they will be approved for teh Interclub competition as well but that is not certain yet.
You need to be running your car at teh minimum weight (1500) so you probably should be adding the weight on teh battery side to get it balanced.LikeLike

Sunshine Coast also has approved Lipos, (end of last year) and the weight limit is the current one. Drew and I have played with lipos on and off in stock and mod and have had to add weight to balance the car. Heavy is right in that it depends on the brand of lipo. Check out all the threads on lipos to ensure you match the brand and size with the class you run.

thanks for that i have put 160 grms where i could on the battery brace any more it would seem to have to much role if i stack it higher to get the car ballances right i need to put 90grms more on the battery side as i think you have had a go of a tc5 you would know there is not a lot of room

I haven’t had a go of a TC5 – I tend to concentrate on proper race cars (LOL).
Assuming your LIPo is a flat pack why can’t you stick weights under the battery so they sit in the slots where normal cells would sit. That’s thne about as low as you can get teh weight.LikeLike

i should be able to loss that 90grms in thoses slots be it seems like a lot of stuffing around to just run li-po.martin i think was in the same bother im in with a unballaces car in term of running li-po.But any thanks for the intel.cheers whats your comments on the tc5
