Stories from the world of RC car racing

Now for something completely non rc and slightly more physical I’ve been out watching my son (Matthew – Steve’s twin brother, and younger brother of Scott ) play in the final day of the Queensland Open Golf at Gainsborough Greens.
Watching Scott race RC in mod at the Nationals or the Qld Titles always clears the heart arteries a bit, but watching the, hole by hole, agony and ecstacy of golf – which unlike RC is also important from a dollars to live on point of view, is a whole (hole) different experience – in addition to the 7km walk.
Matt is a Trainee Pro at Indooroopilly which is aimed more at the Pro Shop side of golf and is not a Touring Pro as such but ocassionally gets the chance to play in the bigger tournaments such as the Qld Open this week and the Qld PGA at Emerald Lakes next weekend.
For the record Matt finished 15th today, (10 under par for the 4 rounds ), out of the 160 that started the tournament so we are delighted with that and Dad is as proud as can be. If you are interested in following Matt’s progress next weekend have a look on www.pga.org.au and follow th links to the Qld PGA.
David.

Matt is playing in the Qld PGA this weekend – he started today 2 under which is a whole lot better than the 5 over he started with last weekend.
The heavy man is on the bag tomorrow so we are hoping for big things.

Rc racing – even pitting for Scott is a whole lot easier than caddying for Matt.
We had a good day and he went 6 under for the day and 8 under for teh tournament so far.
That puts him squarely in the A final for the weekend.
I was wandering along pushing the buggy and naturally started wondering if I could fit a Novak GTB and a couple of brushless motors and a big servo for the steering – as you do.
Lo and behold a guy passed me going the other way with a cart with no handle and controlled by a little remote just about palm sized and with a forward and reverse and steering – spectrum no doubt. Fantastic – there is life in RC for me after I am too old to drive RC cars.
Stay tuned for Saturdays and Sundays results.

    Sunday 4/11/07.
Matt finished today with a great 6 under to be 19 under for the tournament and in a fine 4th place. This is by far his best result in a 4 day open tournament and we are very happy for him.
