I made a comment on the previous post by Scott but seeing it’s way down at 33 and a lot of you won’t wade down that far I thought I’d go back to the top.
The Interclub events are a snapshot of what clubs and racers are doing now and what we want to trial for the future. Also as 2 day events they have always tried to give people a chance to try their hand at their favourite class and maybe stretch themselves to another class on the other day.
Keeping this in mind I make the following serious suggestion for consideration.
3 events in 2008.
Day 1.
One of the gas classes. (3 heats 20 minute final)
540 Novice. Entries from novices with their entry endorsed by their club secretary that they are genuine novices. (3 heats 3 finals)
Stock (3 heats 3 finals ) – incl as now Novak 13.5 bonded rotor brushless.
Mod qualifers – 5 or 6 rounds of qualifying (round by round)
All B and C finals over 2 finals.
Day 2
The other gas class (3heats 20 minute final)
Pro 540 (3 heats 3 finals )
13.5 brushless open (any 13.5 ) (3heats 3 finals)
Mod finals – 5 finals best 3 to count.
All B and C finals over 2 finals
Please consider all the ramifications of the suggestion before jumping on me.
The shortcoming is obviously mod. I think the mod guys are all going to 5 cell so from my discussions with a lot of them they wouldn’t want to go to a secondary 6 cell class like 19t. 19t is not supported at any of the clubs in any sort of serious way so I’ve suggested we drop it and I’m looking for a way for the mod guys to get 2 days of racing. Maybe a normal mod race on day 1 and some kind of control motor or invitational on day 2 would be better than what I have suggested above.
Some clubs want to run open 13.5 so this is a chance to trial it.
I haven’t suggested we include 1/8th scale for the same reasons we left it out in the first place – it’s only a serious class at 2 clubs so it would give an unfair advantage on points to those clubs to include it. Perhaps Brendale and Gold Coast should have a 1/5th – 1/8th Interclub between themselves.
Yes I’ve got some ideas about Gas Tourer rules but will save them for another post. But consider this – for the first time ever Pull Start is now a class at the AARCMCC Nationals… so there are rules.
Let me say again – this is an idea from me, it is not from the committee and it is not set in concrete, it is a vehicle to get discussion happening. Within the next few weeks your club delegates need to start forming some opinions before they make decisions about next year. Your discussion amongst yourselves and your feedback through here or to your delegate will be invaluable in getting things happening for 2008. The committee delegates are acutely aware that “you can’t please all the people all the time” but through early discussion and debate they seek to please the majority.

Can’t see a problem with Mod running 2 days, all the other classes get an option to run both days.
I think the only hassle would be if they didn’t want to run both days.
Not sure what to do for 1 day mod drivers, limit them to 6.5 motors on Saturday.LikeLike

I agree john lets see? just for the mod drivers that ALWAYS race lets run say 5 cell sat and 6 cell sun. HA HA.
How about we run open gas both days as well? Sat 3 ports and Sun 5 ports what do you think?LikeLike

Heavy, once again your years of experience prove to be the difference.
I think this is a great idea and I hope they go for something like this.
My input would be
Dont seperate 6 and 5 cell mod, let them run together.
It would be great if we could try and show case the top 2 classes in our sport, Mod and Open Gas, so maybe you could change it slightly and have 3 qualifiers for each on the 1st day, then 3 and finals on the second. Leaving the others as they were suggested. This also alleviates the problem of single day runners as well. They still get a fair go and lets face it, those sponsered or vastly experienced, dont really need all that much qualifying to get to the front.
I would also like to see lipo’s allowed to be used in all classes.
I agree with a control motor for GT (Pullstart) OS TG & RTR kit motors as long as they are .12 or .15. I guess it’s a matter of looking at the Aus nats rules.
Maybe even a control tyre? Rubber for electric and foam for gas.
Still, this idea is certainly a major step in the right direction

Great idea’s but, what if a mod driver cant race both days and maybe only get Sunday off work he is not going to enter and then we miss out on some extra revenue and driver competition, how about we keep 19T and change the rule to allow 5 & 6 cells that way, the mod guys are not changing batteries for one day and it might encourage stock drivers to step up and taste the spoils of the faster class, and with having the weight issue set at like only the cell weight difference, which would help the stock drivers compete against the top line drivers better. Please dont falme me out just an Idea.

I think we should run heats and finals on the day that class is run, I wouldn’t like to run 3 heats 1 day and the finals on day 2.
Plus we should always give an option to race 1 day or 2.
5 cell 19 turn/10.5 would be slow, as the majority of Mod drivers have changed over to 5 cell it would mean having 5 and 6 cell packs or changing them.
May be they only want to run 1 day, how about we let the Mod driver decide what whey want.
I think the Pull start rules there using at the Nat’s are crap, here’s what there running as far as I can work out, if not please let us know what they are.
Any 1/10 touring car with unmodified pull start kit engine .12-.15 cu/in in size.
Single or two speed transmission
Tuned pipe (optional)
Rubber or Foam tyres
Gear ratios can be changed
Shock and diff oils can be changed
Any chassis/suspension upgradeLikeLike

I guess in the end teh committee will make teh decisions – this is not a decision making process just a discussion – it would be good to get some constructive ideas or discussion points from Gas drivers – hasn’t been too many so far.

I’d have to say that personally I’d prefer mod just be run on one day. While I like the idea of five rounds of qualifying on Saturday and 5 heads-up races on Sunday, the reality of getting there for both days of the event will wipe out some of the mod guys (probably including me).
I’d just run modified on Sunday – 5 or 6 cell (maybe lipo as well) with 5 cell at 1420 and 6/lipo at 1520. We certainly don’t need two mod classes.LikeLike

By the way carnage, nobody is preventing nitro drivers from making positive suggestions. And as heavy said, in the end it will be the club representatives that make any decisions – this is just a place to share a few ideas.

I personally like the way the classes are now and the whole way it is run thats why it’s get’s stronger each round just take the 3rd round this year.
Dont change to much since we are on a good thing, Scott sort of back up what I said earlier that some Mod drivers will be knock out if it’s raced over 2 days as work and family wins over a hobby these days.LikeLike

Since posting the above I’ve had a few people contact me for a discussion – obviously some are not willing to have a public opinion. Some of the ideas from these calls and discussions are as follows :-
1. Keep 19t for the Saturday with the following rules –
Motors – 19T Stock, Brushless down to 10.5T with a max KV4200
Batteries – NiCd, NiMh, LiPo to a max nominal voltage of 7.4v
Minimum weight 1500g
Then run mod on the Sunday only.
2. Gas classes need no changes – 2007 worked well.
3. There is a lot of support for splitting the 540 as outlined above.
4. Split Stock into Brushed (27t as now ) and brushless (any 13.5).
5. Majority appear to think 3 events would be enough with everything else that’s on as well.

Each club continue to have one vote on the committee but each club have two delegates – one to represent Gas and one to represent Electric.LikeLike

better late than never..
the following idea isn’t straying too far from what has been working. the main change is around the super stock class – just an idea.
[b]saturday[/b]
– pull-start (using whatever rules, dont care)
– novice (540)
– stock (current rules that we used this year + any other brushless motors that test to be same speed or slower than the novak w/ bonded rotor).
[b]sunday[/b]
– pro tourer (rules are dialed)
– modified (current weight limits will do, would personally prefer 5 cell only).
– super stock (19 turn as per rules this year – so 4300’s run with bonded rotors, but also open it up to allow 13.5’s with sintered rotors. will be more work to scruitineer, but would give a year of competitive track time with these motors, allowing us to see where they’re at.
just trying to avoid having too many classes that are similar but not quite.LikeLike

The guys that we are pushing out of 540 would then have nowhere to race on the Sunday, assuming they race stock on the Saturday.
I believe we need to be watching out for the clubs interests as well as the drivers. If clubs are going to go to the trouble of putting on a two day event they need maximum entries and most of the drivers are going to want to run two days in different classes – 1 their regular class and 1 a little step up.
Also the Interclub events are meant to be a reflection of what clubs are doing now (with a little experimental slant as well ) so to cut out 540 (except for novices ) is not in that spirit.LikeLike

i’d swap stock and super stock around in my post. and novice is a change of name for the class, nothing more. continue calling it 540, whatever really.
just concered that there’s only one club with a 540 field that fits the ‘pro’ class – other clubs have alot more genuine 540 drivers.
also if li-po are going to be made legal for the inter clubs – something better than an open-eneded ‘li-po are legal’ will be needed.LikeLike

Just one for the Gas guys to chew on – how about we consider having 3 classes for nitro.
1 RTR Pullstart. (also entry only available to novice drivers )
2 Gas Tourer – as now
3 Nitro Pro – as now
I believe – and have people contacting me to say so that we need to cater more to the RTR in order to build up the numbers of Nitro drivers.LikeLike

LIPO rules should be fairly simple. Something like “LIPO packs with a maximum 7.4v and with a minimum 20c rating. Drivers must only charge at a maximum 1c at trackside. No exposed cells to be used, cells must be shrink wrapped or hard cased.” should suffice.

Should there be anything about packaging? Hard cases or multiple shrink wrapping? Or Manufacturers packaging?
Isn’t there some danger with “raw” cells without any sort of protection over the foil?

Leave everything the same as 2007 except add LIPO to every class and allow any 13.5 to run with the 19t class.LikeLike

why change a good thing, it’s working well and you can tell that by shear numbers that are turning out to these events…..LikeLike
