Stories from the world of RC car racing

I’ve made the big decision to run in the 2007 Queensland Offroad Champs. The event is just two weeks away (June long weekend) at will run at Ipswich – home of the 2005 Australian Championships. The track is more compact now but just as challenging, and in my view is the best layout that has been run since that Nationals event.
My tilt at the titles will take the form of the Kyosho ZX5 Lazer for 4wd modified (thanks Dad!), and Team Associated RC10 B4 for 2wd (courtesy Peter Scott – thanks mate!). The 4wd will be powered by the Novak Brushless system straight from my touring car (and the ‘slowest’ motor we have is a 4.5), while Peter has been good enough to offer something a little more controllable for the B4.
It’s been a long while since I had a serious race on the dirt – so it will definitely be fun to be hitting the jumps again. I hopefully will get out to Ippy this Saturday for the club event to get some practice in – and maybe the Friday afternoon of official practice for an hour or two. No doubt I’ll be rusty, and probably uncompetitive – but it will definitely be fun!
Dad is going to come out and run on the Sunday in the vintage demo class. The classic Tamiya Hotshot will once more be pressed into service – bumpsteer, collapsing front suspension and all.
Stay tuned for race and practice reports, and all the gory details as a has-been goes back to the dirt…
Here’s the Entry so far.

    Hi Scott
If the 4.5 is a bit tooo quick for the 4wd I have a 6.5 you can use.

Practice finally got under way today after a huge effort by the boys to drain the track and get it race worthy. The interstate drivers such as Ben Panic, Leigh Cheeseman, Todd Trower, Ashley Peeler were making the most of practice time, and most looked ready for tomorrow’s 4wd/truck day. I’m not yet seen anything to make me change my tips – though I haven’t confirmed whether Painy will make an appearance or not…
