Stories from the world of RC car racing

This weekend I make a short comeback to Onroad to compete in the Tamworth Cup – this is the annual Interstate competition between Qld and NSW and we have about 25 Queenslanders going down to do battle against about 70 NSW hopefuls. Currently Qld are the holders of the shield and we will give it our best shot to get it back again.
I personally have to decide if I stick with the tried and tested Mi2 EC or do I make the switch and run the Mi3. It’s probably fair for a review to be run , not only by a good driver (Scott at Logan last Saturday) but also by an average club driver like myself. If I can do ok with it it’s probably another tick for the car.
Time will tell – I’ll decide during Friday which one I’ll run.
Before then there’s a lot of packing to do – what to take what spares what tools what everything else. All will be ready to hit the road Thursday night or Friday morning very early – want to be practicing by 1100 ish.
Check back here during the weekend if you aren’t coming and I’ll try to get some progress results etc posted.

The other big question is – can Leonard get the TC5 built in time?

If you get it finished with 5 minutes to spare I can paint the body for you – if you push me I could probably get a rush job done in 4 minutes

I have a black, green and yellow body from the Brendale nats you can borrow if you want. You’ll need to qualify 10th though, ‘cos I’m never removing the number…
Alterately you can just run the TC4. Remember Leonard – “slop is a tuning tool!” Sometimes old and worn out is a good thing!

I have pouted and sulked all week about not going to Tamworth, and have demanded round-by-round updates during the race. Assuming those outrageous demands are met, I’ll try to post some results during the course of the weekend – and hopefully some practice thoughts after Friday.
Of course we have 3 or 4 of our contributors at the event so should see some detailed race reports early next week. Just have to wait and see which of Tones, PeterD and Leonard are the first to post the story from Mod Tourer…. 😉

    Tamworth Cup 2007.
The Annual Tamworth Cup for 2007 has been run and won. Billed as the Interstate Challenge – the annual comp between NSW and Queensland this year attracted more entries than previously, especially from Nitro drivers. An extra EP class (19t ) was also added. About 70 NSW entries and about 20 Qld drivers made the pilgrimage to Tamworth to sample the delights of one of the (if not the ) best 10th scale tracks in the country. Electric drivers really love it but it could be considered a little small for some of the Nitro Open drivers I guess
The weather prevailed over practice with the track closed all day Friday, the club squeezed in a couple of hours practice time from 8 to 10 on Saturday morning. Three rounds of qualifying (14 heats each ) were finished before dark and a fouth round under lights Saturday night with the fifth and final round first thing Sunday morning.
Basically the club ran a pretty good event with all the finals finished by about 4 followed by presentations etc.
The Interstate Challenge finished with NSW taking the honours by a mere 17 points 150 to 133.
                                            NSW                 QLD
    Nitro Open                         30                    18
    Nitro Pullstart                     31                    14
    Mod Electric                       19                     33
    Stock Electric                     24                     25
    19t Electric                        27                     17
    540                                  19                     26
    Total                                150                    133
At the end of the weekend it seemed that most had had a great time and there were plenty who had never been before who were declaring their intention to come back next year – that can’t be a bad thing.
    Cheers until next time.
