A very enjoyable night’s racing at Logan tonight with just shy of 50 entries across four classes. 10 car grids in Nitro, 540 and Modified were joined by a super competitive 16 driver field in Stock touring. Read on for more…
540: Some good racing tonight in a big and competitive field. Steve Evans took the qualifying honours before going down in the final to Tristian Hyde. Steve finished second from Shane Hyde in third. I wandered around the pits tonight and once again amazed at the amount of gear some drivers have to run 540….so much for a beginners class….
Rebuildable Stock: A big field, and some of Australia’s best were on show tonight with Keith Mackrill dominant after his Vic Titles win last weekend. Keith took TQ and the win after some entertaining races. I’m pretty sure Karl Yeung was second and Damian Barnier making a welcome return in third (but that could be wrong). Aaron Fryer was well in the mix all night as well. Poor old Barger spent most of the night trying to plot a way to “borrow” the Mi3. I think he is keen!
Modified: A good 10 car field with a mixture of experienced guys with relative newcomers to mod racing. There were some excellent races throughout the field, and certainly if the laughter and stories being told were any indication, lots of enjoyment was had. I think Addam Smith might have done some serious damage with a big “off”, and Ding didn’t run the final either – some damage there perhaps? I wanted to mention Brandon Dewit who with not a lot of EP touring under his belt is doing a good job and setting some good times. Scott Kirchner also drove well (in between diff rebuilds). Scott is the 2007 4wd Stock EP Offroad National Champ – so certainly knows how to steer. At the front it was some entertaining racing between Peter Dooley, Martin Nichols and myself. In the end I was able to set the TQ time and had a great run in the final, with (somebody correct me if I’m wrong) Peter second and Martin third.
My Night: For the Schumacher Mi3 it was a great start. The car was excellent right out of the box, and with just a couple of very minor setup changes, was right in the window. After just 5 runs it is already better than my Mi2-EC – and that’s a car I was really happy with! We have the Mi3 for a Racing Lines review should appear in the issue due out mid-June…
Having not driven for a couple of months, I felt really rusty, and made quite a few mistakes early in the night, and was aslo a bit nervous about breaking the car. With no spare parts in the country yet – and a photo shoot scheduled this week, I couldn’t afford a big crash. In the final I managed to string together a quite clean run and went about 10 secs faster than in qualifying – which is always nice! I enjoyed driving the track in the “reverse” direction – except was a little disappointed to see the second kerb removed from the chicane onto the back straight.
