Our Tamiya Hotshot arrived – and took us waaaaay back in time.
We first owned one of these beauties in 1985 – so you’re looking at a 22 year old buggy. By the time we finished with it it had more traditional upright rear shocks, a home-made chassis constructed from thick polycarbonate (lexan) sheet and a few other mods that the sands of time have erased from my memory. A typical club day included about 35 Hotshots competing in 4wd Junior Stock (talk about spec racing!). The original block tyres lasted for months, the original (manual) speed controller was replaced much more frequently. Ahh….memories….

Yeah the memories of growing up racing and having to stand on a tree stump on the drivers stand. Being the youngest driver/racer. So much fun. Racing my Grasshopper and then a Hornet, The Frog, Falcon and finishing the Fox. The old man still has the Fox in the display cabinet. I remember the knobbily tyres as well.
Used to race at Chevelum when they had a track out there and use sheep counters to count the laps and using colour electrical tape as a unique identifier (transponder).
So much fun it was. Just like today but a hell of a lot more changes you can do to the car.LikeLike
