Schumacher have today announced the forthcoming Mi3 Touring Car. Here are their words…..
“Once in a great while an innovation occurs that so completely improves upon what is available that it sparks a change from one way of thinking to another. It’s a revolution, a transformation, a metamorphosis where old ideas are left behind and a new way of thinking takes over.
The Schumacher Mi3 is the first next generation touring car. It will set new standards for 4WD electric touring car design. Featuring a host of design innovations and a unique ultra modern look the Mi3 will be the car to beat at race tracks around the world and the benchmark all new touring cars will be compared to.

  • Ultra low top deck design for lower centre of gravity
  • 2mm Aerospace carbon fibre chassis and top deck
  • Efficient transmission with twin Kevlar belts and precision CNC pulleys
  • Alloy eccentric adjusters for optimum belt tention
  • Easy diff height adjustment to allow changes in drive shaft plunge – this can be used to increase or decrease traction
  • Industry first static layshaft with ultra-low rotating mass gear pulley assembly
  • Quick release diffs – just 2 screw!
  • Super easy to work on design
  • Design optimised for 4, 5, 6 cell and LiPo battery packs
  • Symmetrical chassis layout with few screws minimises tweak
  • Ultra smooth Nickel-Teflon plated threaded alloy shock absorbers for extreme smoothness and durability
  • Purple alloy CV drive shafts with hard anodised axles and low friction blades
  • Stiff 3mm shock towers with optimsed shock positions
  • Lightweight machined diff pulley, Tungsten Carbide diff balls, aerospace thrust bearing and fixed trilobe diff washers
  • new heavy duty front spool with CNC pulley
  • Twin pivot block design allows infinite adjustment of roll centres, toe-in, anti-squat, and track width on front and rear
  • New twin axis inner camber links for infinite camber link height and length adjustment
  • Fully adjustable steering including Velocity Ratio, Ackermann Angle and Ackermann Rate
  • Low C of G anti-roll bars
  • Speed secret parts available to fine tune to all track conditions
  • Prototype model shown, some details may vary”

the way the inner camber links, inboard toe & kickup/dive etc mounts work looks very good, from first glance it looks kinda messy, but when you have a closer look to see how they operate, they look like they could make life fairly easy to work on the car… common parts like screws & shims to adjust these settings are always handy instead of having to buy 5 different blocks front & back, that was one of the things i liked so much about the RDX… though the MI3 looks far easier to actually work on in regards to these settings than the RDX was.
only thing i can see being a pain in the ass is the rear inner camber link mounts, they’re upside down so getting a wrench in there could be a bit of a pain 😦

oh, and the single screw for the layshaft could be an issue, apparently corally tried this a while back and it ended in tears, with the spur gear shifting all the time… in theory it’d be really good, only 1 screw to remove to change the spur gear, though in practice i think you might need it… cause you’ll probably have to change the spur gear regularly 😦

I think it might just be easiest to pull the inner rear camber link off the bulkhead – it’s a single screw – and work on it that way. I guess we’ll find out in a few weeks. Same with the layshaft. They are very confident in the strength and performance of the layshaft, so I guess we’ll know in a few weeks.
By the way Jay, you forgot to leave your postal address. We need to know where to deliver your Mi3 (COD of course!) 😉
I think there are a few really good, but not so obvious things. The new spool for one (3 pieces, much stronger) and new diffs (locking diff rings) – which will both fit the Mi2/Mi2-EC as well. New shock parts, low mounted roll bars (below axles I think?) and of course removing diffs with two screws means I’ll be more likely to play with a one-way (shame HS is gone!).
I can’t wait to see one up close and personal…

It will be interesting to see how the layshaft idea holds up in mod, contrary to what the advertising says – they are not the first with this idea.
The bulkhead design, especially at the front looks fantastic – and I’m assuming that having very thick lower bulkhead with a short top deck will vastly reduce any tweak issues.
Love the eccentric housings for the diffs and the fact that the car comes fully-optioned too!
Now, how much are they 😉

Jason and Andrew – time you both made the switch to Schumacher. Start saving. I will confirm teh Action RC price soon but as usual we will be keeping it as skinny as possible – same as we do with parts for Schuie racers.

Hate to admit it but even the TC5 is not as appealing as this…

Hi guys – I cant give you an exact figure yet because it will depend on freight and stuff like that and I don’t want to load the price excessively to cover the worst scenario but I think my retail will be around $600.

Sorry Pete, I’m sure what I said was that I would spray paint one with a can of Tamiya French Blue if that would make the difference to you.
I’m just waiting the go-ahead from you and I’ll be off to the shop to pick up the spray can. Is it just the bulkheads you want blue? Or chassis as well? Wheels? Let me know… 🙂

pete- the results i have here from the volumetric anodizing analisis seem to suggest that your current car is the most purple car available on the market today… how much longer can you keep up the act… go on… admit you love purple anodizing!! 🙂
