Just for those who are interested and have asked, here’s a breakdown of what Scott used at the Nats.
Car. Schumacher Mi2 EC Absolutely box stock except for purple shock mounts (no performance advantage), Ceramic bearings (doubtful performance advantage ), 2 degree steering yokes and an option battery brace – no messy tape.
Motor and ESC. Novak GTB and Novak 3.5 brushless motor. One motor for practice and the event, the same motor Scott has been using since the 3.5 came out. Scott only has one motor and one speedy.
Servo. Futaba S9402. This is a reasonable speed reasonable priced metal geared non- digital servo. Scott has been using this servo for 2 years and it’s his only servo.
Radio. A borrowed Futaba with Spektrum – spektrum seemed like a good idea for this event especially during practice.
Cells. Scott has 4 packs of Intellect 4200 SHV cells (not world champion edition). These are Fantom team packs available to everyone, reasonably priced, and not specially selected or anything like that. Scott used the same 4 packs for the practice Friday and the 6 qualifiers and the 3 A final runs.
TYRES It was a controlled tyre event and as such no choice here – Sorex 36 with C medium insert.
Body Protofrom Mazda 6.
Charger Much More CTX version 1 for charging and discharging and a Novak Smart Tray for equalising before charging each day.
SETUP. Scott’s setup was freely shared with any Schumacher driver that wanted it and is posted on our site for all to see.
I guess the point to be made from all this is that you don’t have to spend a fortune on hop ups, Schumacher EC is hopped up straight from the box – add quality basic gear and the sky is the limit. By the way – watch this space – “Action RC Team Schumacher” are about to take a quantum leap forward in the modifioed stakes around Brisbane, whilst maintaining a strong presence is stock as well.
