Stories from the world of RC car racing

The 2006 Qld Indoor Onroad Championship is approaching rapidly. Taking place at the excellent Hobbystation venue at Archerfield, this is an old event in a great new format. The action takes place on December 10th, with classes for 540 (Novic), Clubman (Stock) and Modified Tourers, plus the much looked-forward to 1/12th class.
Details on the entry form here.
We’ll be back with some predictions in the next few days, but in the meantime, get practicing. There is a Hobbystation club nights Wednesday 29th Nov. Be there!

Well the weekend has finally arrived. Unfortunately it’s work for me today but should finish around 12 and then it’s over to HS to start working with the computer preparing for tomorrows race.
The Qld Indoor Titles has a proud history and we are hoping not to let that history down. It’s always been an event that catered more towards what people wanted to race than to what the rule book says we have to. We aren’t opposed to the rule book in any sense at all – it’s very necessary and staunchly defended by me but for this event we like to try some new things each time.
This year we’ll be the first to officially mix brushless and brushed in the stock class (we’re calling it clubman as it’s not officially stock ) at a trophy / championship event and also the first Qld event to allow different weights in mod to allow for the different cell count. We have also restricted the 540 class to the up and coming – people who struggle with the RC budget in many cases and some for whom that big win has just eluded – until now.
Above all we’ll be trying for a relaxed fun atmosphere as we all wind down after a particularly busy RC year – come and race – race hard – race fair – race for fun. Laughter from the drivers stand is not compulsory but certainly encouraged – I’m hoping to set the example in that area. The traditional lolly jar will be in attendance – try laughing with a snake in your mouth.

Sorry guys I can’t get the results uploaded due to corrupt files – I’ll go over to HS tomorrow and get things organized to get the files up then.
    540
    1st Nigel brokenshire
    2nd Sony Pearce
    3rd Tristian Hyde
    Clubman
    1st Andrew Shapland
    2nd Karl Yeung
    3rd david Groves
    Mod
    1st Scott Guyatt
    2nd Peter Dooley
    Michael Redmond
    1/12th
    1st Grant McDonald
    2nd Damien Barnier
    3rd Leonard Lai
As I said I’ll get the full results up as soon as possible.
From my point of view the clubman class was a success – running brushed stock motors with 13.5 brushless worked out well. The fastest driver on the day won using a brushed with brushless 2, 3, 4, and 5. race organisers around the country who are looking at trying this can probably take heart that they aren’t getting into too much trouble at this stage – provided the 13.5 is still fitted with standard rotor as we ran them today. Brushed enthusiasts or who don’t want to make the change can still take heart that they are still running motors capable of mixing with the brushless.
The other big winner was, I think, 1/12th scale. After the disaster at Brendale it was good to see these little rockets on a track well suited to their size and speed – very impressive I thought.
Although Scott, Peter and a couple of others made mod look manageable around HS it is definitely in my opinion more suited to stock. Originally 540 and stock were the only classes offered there of a Friday night and I’m considering getting our Wednesday nights back to that with 1/12th as well of course.
There won’t be any Wed night meetings now till January – at this stage I’m thinking possibly Wednesday 10th or 24th – watch this space.
I’m heading off next weekend for 4 weeks of RC free R&R and looking forward to it immensely – I’ll be back next year for a lot more racing but for now it’s time to hang up the transmitter, think of family, friends, relaxing, catching up on a few good books, drinking some coffee and eating a few Christmas goodies. Merry Christmas, Happy New year, stay safe if travelling and looking forward to catching up again next year .
    cheers heavy.

Just wanted to say that I had a really fun weekend!!! Good racing and good laughs (even though some of the laughs were at my expense!!!)
A special mention must go out to Jay Dixon for supplying me with a complete 1/12th scale package to run(green suki)……car was good and now I want a 1/12th scale……..damn you Jay!!!!
Most memorable moment for the weekend……….Bigmac having the ability to clear out a room in less than 10secs!!!! A man with a special talent!!! Bugle Butt!!! (although he did receive his first and only warning for that offence from the Heavy man!!!)
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. See you all in the New Year!!!
    Leonard.
