Stories from the world of RC car racing

Great days racing today – all scales – even a few of the old boys turned up who usually only race 1/5th. Only 3 1/12th which was a shame but plenty in all other classes. Was good to see the Tassie Devils up to race here again – they’ll be at Hobby Station on Wednesday night racing Stock as well.
I resisted the urge for a headline that read “Schumacher wins at Brendale” but for those of you who have been asking – The car I drove in Gas Tourer today is a Schumacher R12 – a fairly old (in RC terms probably ancient ) but still competitive model. The car is unusual in that it is a 2 belt design rather than the industry standard 3 belt. The gearbox also different and runs outside – exposed – the spur gears making it very easy to adjust. It also has a unique feature that enables adjustment of the point at which engine brakeing cuts in and out. Preparation for Brendale from bayside involved changing from rubbers to foams and no other adjustments. I use a OS CVRX engine tuned once 6 months ago and not messed with since although I’m sure there is a lot more power in there if it wasn’t running so rich. Only limiting factor for this car is usually the driver – almost too old.
Just added a couple of good Adrian Beggs prepared stock motors to the used motor section on our Specials page.
Just a reminder that it is Hobby Station week this week – be there for a 7pm start – stock will be big.

David you didn’t say how the 13.5 went, I think you got one run in before you had to give up your radio gear.

mmmm forgot about that. In a continuation of my testing of the new Novak 13.5 (Stock) motor I planned to run it in the stock class at Brendale (with the agreement of the organisers). I ran one heat and then had to pull out as I gave the receiver from that car to Scott to get him out of a severe glitching problem he was having adn so I didn’t run it again all day.
In the race I ran I had a couple of reasonably close dices with other cars driven by drivers of similar ability to me and can say that there was definitely no performance benefit or detriment from the motor – it looked and felt very much like a stock motor.
I plan to continue to run it at those clubs where I am allowed (not major events obviously) and preferably within the stock class until I am satisfied that either it is a reasonable motor for teh class or it’s not – testing continues.
