Stories from the world of RC car racing

It’s no secret that there has been abysmal support for Hobby Station from Brisbane’s Onroad racers. Firstly their weekend meets and laterly their Wednesday night meets have met with little response. Even their major events, like the recent fantastic “Invitational” have failed to gain much response.
Management has decided it’s time for a change at Hobby Station. At this stage Leo is reluctant to bring dirt inside and has decided on the next best thing – Astro Turf and constructed jumps – it’s Offroad time. No maintenance and a consistant surface, what else could a racer want.
The track will be open every day (whenever the shop is open) for practice at the very reasonable fees normally charged for track time and there will be some race meets on weekends etc as well.
We, at Action RC will remain involved in trying to get a Wednesday night meet up and running and in the initial stages the Wednesday night program will focus on classes by motor rather than car type (1) 540 or stock for any chassis (2) 19t for 4wd and (3) mod 2wd or truck. Once there is enough interest in any class we will be able to run that seperately. Noone will be turned away initially with a “run what ya brung” mentality for the test phase.
Get out your Offroad machines boys and dust them off Hobby Station will be coming alive to buggies, trucks, nobbly tyres and big air – and the best part is – when Brisbane gets the rain we so badly need and want – we’ll still be racing. All smiles and no mud.

sad to see that there wasn’t more interest in onroad, i’ve been there a few times and even flew up from melbourne especially for the invitational event, and must say that it’s a fantastic facility.
that being said, with the resurgence in offroad racing, an indoor offroad track might go down nicely… just wish we had some more facilities in melbourne like you do up there in brissy 🙂

It’s always possible that we could move the Astroturf for a major Onroad event in the future – say the Queensland Indoor Onroad Champioships or the Invitational but it will be too much work to move it for a regular weekly meet etc.

Indoor off-road track didn’t last in Brisbane. Hit up http://www.gcrcraceway.com.au/ for best indoor off-road action in Australia. Northern end of the Gold Coast.
