Stories from the world of RC car racing

Australia’s Craig Laughton has finished second in the 2wd class at the 2009 IFMAR World Champships in South Africa.  Laughton took leg one of the finals before Germany’s Martin Achter picked up A2 & A3 to take the Championship.  The two will go head to head in the 4wd class which starts tonight Australian time.
As with last week’s 5th scale Worlds, entry numbers are very low, with most international drivers boycotting the event.  Reasons quoted include cost of travel, and perceived safety issues.  It’s a real shame this event (and the TRAP club who are hosting) have suffered in this way.
Congrats to Craig for a fine drive, and all the best for 4wd.

Craig ended up finishing 3rd in 4wd after struggling through qualifying and sneaking into the A final in 10th place. More mechanical issues in A1, but 2nd and 3rd in A2/A3 to get home second. martin Achter took the win, and in the process gave durango a world championship crown for their new DEx410 4wd buggy.
