This is what happens when you go offroad racing in tassie…in winter.
Good fun meet yesterday at latrobe raceway with extra interest due to the presence of mainlander and long-time nitro buggy racer Nick Drygalla. Despite the pits being awash with mud thanks to weeks of recent rain, the track was actually in pretty good condition and was very fast by the last qualifier. A quick shower during the Buggy B final meant it was a bit sticky in the A main….and what you see above is the result.
Local fast man Tim Parsons continues to have just a little too much pace on board for me, and after qualifying second to Tim, I ended up finishing third behind Tim and Nick D – though losing a wheel in the last minute meant I only just made it home on three!
I made some progress with setup yesterday, changing springs, diff oils and a few suspension geometry tweaks. As a result I drove my fastest heat race so far. On the downside, after a year of flawless reliability, I started experiencing a few engine tuning issues….still lots to learn.
Next time I make it to Latrobe I reckon I might have to give the RC8T a run. it’s had outings in the hands of heavy and steve, but I’ve not yet raced it properly here. Might be time.
Have to say though, after yesterdays mudliness….I’m looking forward to some nice clean TC racing on the Gold Coast in just over a month’s time!
Now….to convince my kids they would love to clean the LRP….
(lots of photos here for those who like such things…)
