Stories from the world of RC car racing

Foam tyres – gotta hate em.
Think about the Bayside track and all the corners – the fast ones are mostly right handers right – end of both straights, turn 2 a hairpin right, turn 6 a hairpin right. So tell me why my right hand rear tyre wore appreciably more than the other 3 on Sunday. Shouldn’t it have been the left hand rear ?
First correct answer gets a reward – of something to be decided. – Not a glow plug – I’m keeping that for framing. Hope you haven’t lost that John H.

I’d hazard a guess that your rear diff was a touch too loose and let the predominantly inside rear wheel unload and spin. In this case the rear right.

Would you like me to send it to you by Australia Post or would you like the much safer route I’ll give it two you next time I see you.
Tyre wear, you should be swapping your tyres side to side after each run to even the wear.
The 2 hi speed r/h der’s your not under power, mainly coasting so l/h side wear there.
I would say the wear is from the bumps through the mug handle and up the hill allowing the r/h/r to spin more.
Chassis tweak and driving style can add to it as well.
My rear tyres were wearing fairly even in the heats, I haven’t checked it after the half final.

    mmmmm thanks for that guys.
Actually I thought the tyre wear was exceptionally even and “square” after the heats, it was only after the final it really started to become a problem.
Anyway I’ll be watching out for those things you guys have mentioned.
I have a few improvements scheduled before the next Glow Plug Shootout. 💡

Bevel gear diff will do it all the time. Am i on the mark, or have you a ball diff in Heavy:?:

Need thicker oil in the diff then, maybe it just has some thin grease in it, I Reckon toby is on the money with it being the spinning thing.

No idea what is in the back diff, just grease I reckon. There is blue tak in the front diff I know that cause I put it there.

That be the issue then Dave. I would say its just white grease in there. I’d try up to 30k fluid next run.

My front left was much smaller than the right and I hadnt swapped tyres over all day.

I would accept that front left could cop a bit of extra wear – maybe if you were going as fast as me you might have had trouble iwth the right rear as well 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆
