Stories from the world of RC car racing

The rain delayed and rain interupted Presidents Shield has finally been run and won.
I had to leave early to farewell some friends heading for India for 6 months and the only class finalised before I left was Gas Tourer.
This class was TQ’d by Hasham and he went on to win it – the final was shortened to 50 laps (100 laps planned) due to rain. Second and probably his best result to date was Vazzo (I”m a novice ), third John Hansen, fourth and the victorious winner of the over 60 Glo plug was Heavy. Those who follow this blog will know that I normally race electric and I’m just racing gas for a break / change / holiday for a few weeks and to evaluate a budget RTR car that we are looking to sell through Action RC. At this stage all is going well but it’s early days – more on that later. Love those long finals which, for me is the main attraction to nitro – and beating Trevor to the over 60 glo plug – how much fun can 2 grown men have over a $8 glo plug? A lot – I can tell you for sure there will be no holds barred next time we meet. 😆 😆 😆
540 – Chris Sturdy was untroubled to TQ in his Schumacher and absolutely blitzed the field in the finals.
Chris Sturdy TQ and 1st 540 Presidents Shield 2009
Stock – Keith Mackrill was firm favourite with a TQ and one win when I left. Toby was pretty firmly in second I think – good to see a new (well returning from elsewhere) face challenging in stock. The top 4 or 5 in qualifying were pretty tight I think.
Mod – Anthony (TQ) was being pushed by Tim
Pro Tourer. TQ went to Jason Dorn by a hairs bredth from Mick Sherman – the 100 lap final promised to be a beauty.
Results and stories later from our other correspondents.

    Was a great day.
    Few edits to Dave’s post:-
Pro Tourer- Mick Sherman actually got TQ after the last heat starting mess was sorted. Took it by a few seconds over Jason.
He had a rough final, stripping second gear early in the race. With his lead slowly getting less (down to 2 laps) Mick pitted for a 2nd gear change, leaving the pits on the lead lap in 2nd place. Dropped a belt a little later in the race and again had to pit for repairs. I think Wade and I set the world record for belt and gear changes.
