Stories from the world of RC car racing

The sad news is that ORRCA (in their wisdom 😆 ) have abandoned the approved battery list and gone to the ROAR list only as the official LIPO list. This means that my LIPO (NEU5000 – identical in every respect to a CORE5000 just marketed through a different company) which were legal last year are not legal this year.
This means I am illegal for any ORRCA event and for the Interclubs. And I suppose technically at Bayside – think I’ll be able to race at Logan though.
I wonder if anyone on ORRCA realises what the cost of LIPOs is and how long they last – my NEU packs are as good today, performance wise, as they were a year ago – just not legal anymore for ORRCA events. What will I say to my customers from last year that bought NEU packs in good faith? One of the advantages of LIPO – their long life – has just been eclipsed.
Oh well I can use them in my Caster 1/8th buggy for awhile till ORRCA starts to interfere in that class.
Got to go find a hook to hang up my Mi3.5.

I have been told that interclubs and Especially club meets, Will most likely not care about this. especially since they are the same in theory and are hard cased
I think your only worry would be state titles.
    Worrying for nothing………

ORCCA should have just stuck with the ROAR list in the first place. What a backflip. I bet if there is anyone on the ORCCA commitee, they don’t own any battery on the band list. Politics, got to love it!! 👿 👿

Why do we need ORCCA anyway? What do they do that the national body does not?
Other than copy Victoria and ROAR for their ORCCA rule set and complicate matters for the club racer..

Well if we didn’t have ORRCA we have AARCMCC and that would be much worse. Make that much much much worse.
Orrca have been leaders in lots of stuff – mostly good but this time I disagree with them.

It just seems like its double handling of rules to me. ORRCA have no authority outside of QLD clubs. They are not affiliated with the national or international body.
AARCMCC is not as bad as everyone makes out. At least they can’t change rules without member clubs proposing and voting on the issue.

The 2008 Lipo list (20 cells) was compiled from the Roar list with some OEM cells added assuming they would be roar approved.
Roar now has 72 cells on their list including some OEM’s that have got they seperate approvals.
The Harris 3200 cell is just one of them.
To maintain a level playing field OEM variations of the core 5000 could be approved if the supplier sort to pay for ROAR Approvals.

    Your first paragraph is incorrect.
The list was compiled by me of batteries that met certain criteria – it was not assuned at that time that they would be ROAR approved, the list was compiled before ROAR approvals were even commenced.
I understand the ROAR list and how batteries get approved but you are missing my point.
I have LIPO and some of my customers have LIPO that were on the ORRCA/Interclub list and were legal for the Interclub as well and now they are not.
LIPO last a lot longer than 6 months and for ORRCA to say that they gave 6 months notice of their intention to change the rule still sucks – just my opinion of course. Not everyone can afford new batteries every 6 months just to satisfy a whim of ORRCA.

I thought IC rules were quite flexible??? I dont think any club would have a problem with allowing the CORE Lipo to be run, people that own and run the CORE Lipo would probably pull out. Surely the IC committee could vote them back in this year. 😉 we still have a week and a half to go….plenty of time.

Read it again mate – it’s the NEU I’m having trouble with not the CORE.
