Stories from the world of RC car racing

Well I’ve had the best day – what a fantastic hobby we are involved with.
Up early – 3am – for an early flight to Sydney, trained myself to argue with a GPS in Sydney traffic on a rainy day while driving a strange car. Got to the track to find it just the same as I remembered from 1989 and 1992. Found a bunch of diehard veterens there displaying and racing some of the best collections of rare and vintage RC cars you would find anywhere.
Now I’m not a collector – for me if I don’t need it to race it then it’s out the door – but I found out today, just like I did a few weeks ago with the drifters, that collectors of vintage RC are as legitimate part of this hobby as anyone else – their enjoyment is obvious to see – and might I say just a little bit contageous as well.
Happy to say that my Hotshot didn’t let me down – it was quite good to drive and good enough to race with whatever was there – watch out for some pics here There are also some fantastic pics on RC tech under the vintage 14.2.09 thread – worth a look – we really gave the old girls plenty.
Because of the rain we didn’t race just ran the cars and sat around chewing the fat and reading old copies of Dirt and Track – fantastic day – well worth it.
RIP St Ives as we knew it.
