So Top Gear Australia is now a few weeks old. And there are plenty of people lining up to pan it. Not funny. Poor imitation of the real thing. Lame. So it goes….
but really….is that fair?
What happens if we compare Top Gear Australia to the original in its first handful of episodes?
Suddenly the presenters seem not so bad after all. Suddenly the photography looks pretty special. In its early episodes, Top Gear was pretty rough – albeit with the signs that it would become what it is.
I think we need to give the Top Gear Australia guys some time, and some credit. I don’t reckon it’s too bad for such a new gig.
And then we could compare Top Gear Australia with ANY previous Australian motoring show, and suddenly it looks sensational. We have a long history of producing complete rubbish motoring shows. Top Gear Aus might not be hitting the heights of its UK ancestor (or Fifth Gear for that matter)….but it’s a long way better than Australia’s previous best.
I’ll be cutting it some slack and enjoying watching the cast and crew develop their own flavour (as long as that flavour doesn’t include ‘what where they thinking’!).
