So I made it back to the nitro buggy race track today for my second visit. Today I was running the LRP S8 BX Team car (read about it in Racing Lines later in the year).
There were 20 buggies, 10 monster trucks and 6 truggies – a pretty healthy turnout on a beautiful spring day (can you believe, t-shirts in Tassie?!!).
There is a full race report at the club web forum.
I had a cracker day. Good weather, good company, great racing. There are a bunch of guys getting faster and faster – with the result that the sharp end of the buggy field is very hard fought.
I managed to TQ thanks to a little good fortune and a strange qualifying system – but there were four guys on the front-running pace. The A final opened up with 4 of us nose to tail for about 5 minutes before varying pit strategies split us up a little. I lead until about the 11 minute mark before striking trouble. Who knew that a spur gear could chew up the fuel tube and disrupt the fuel supply to the motor!
Rookie!
It was an enjoyable day out, and I fear my conversion to the noisy and dirty side of our hobby may be all but complete……
