The TYRE and battery maze.
There appears to be a few new drivers around wanting to run the Qld Titles for the first time this year and some seem to be a bit confused about the tyre rules. The split up between ORRCA and AARCMCC for this years event makes it even more confusing with one system for 540 and Stock and a completely different system for Modified.
Novice (540) and Stock – ORRCA system.
You will be required to purchase your own tyres, inserts and wheels and glue them up and present them for impounding before racing starts – preferably on the Friday at latest early Saturday morning. These will be marked with your number etc and kept in the impound. You can submit up to a maximum of three sets but can only have one set out of the impound at any time during qualifying. Once the qualifying is finished you can have all your sets out and you can mix and match from all sets for the finals. If you only wish to have one set for the event thats fine but once racing starts you can not submit any more tyres. Only Sorex 36 tyres can be used.
540 will also use a control motor which will be supplied at a cost to each competitor – it will be the grey can Johnson cat#583.
Modified.
Tyres, inserts and wheels will all be controlled and will be supplied at a set cost.A maximum of 3 sets per competitor may be purchased for the qualifying. A further 2 sets will be available to drivers in the A final or they may use 2 sets of their qualifying tyres if they wish which will be remarked. Tyres will be Sorex 36 and inserts will be Sorex C medium but rims are not yet announced but will be within days. Drivers electing not to buy 3 sets before the start may not change their minds after racing starts and similarly drivers electing not to but their 2 sets for the finals may not change their minds after finals racing starts.
Batteries
Novice (540) and Stock
6 cell NIMH up to 4600 mah or LiPO as per the ORRCA or ROAR lists may be used.
Modified
5 cell NIMH only from the AARCMCC approved battery list
The novice class (540) has the following limitations on drivers eligible
“2.1.1.6 If driver/entrant has placed in the top 3 of any ORRCA QLD or AARCMCC sanctioned event, regardless of class or scale, the driver/entrant is not eligible for this class.”
There is no age limitation or requirement.

So what are the track conditions?
    Bumpy/smooth
    Tight/open/both
    High grip/Medium grip/low grip
Myself and Andrew Abbott are hoping to lock out the front row for Victoria 😀

I would say – Bumpy – Both (long straights but tricky infield) – Medium Grip

    Bumpy ❗ ❓ 😦
I’m not sure I would describe it like that but the track has plenty of “character” 😉 🙄

A billiard table it is not but it’s a good track which will test your skills ❗ I’m sure you will have a great time. 😉

It’s quite an enjoyable track to drive/race Kirby – just a little bumpy is all. Where would we be if all race tracks were the same?
Best of luck to all competitors and organisers this weekend. I hope it’s a good one, and I’m looking forward to hearing the results. Can we have some video up on youtube sunday night? 😉
The potential Stock a-final lineup is incredible: Mackrill, Livingstone, Sherman, Perkins, Giblin, Nichols, Broadstock, Wakefield, Lyons, Vardy, Yeung and more. Glad I’m not trying to make it into that lineup!
Mod, hard to see it being other than a battle between Atack, Abbot and Kirchner….but stranger things have happened.
Novice…..really? A few guys in that class who somehow don’t quite seem novices…. Should be a battle between Nham, Muller, Tyler, Creed, Porter and Sturdy (Snr).

Many came and practiced, many laps were done, gear ratios changed, motors changed, some smiled, some scratched their heads – tomorrow the flag drops and things will start to be revealed it should be great.

In stock Clinton and JP had troubles in the first heat and as it’s 4best and none have been dropped yet you can expect to see both on them in the top ten as well.
Similarly in mod expect to see Peter Giblin leap into teh top ten after one round tomorrow as well.
Everything is going well – 2 more rounds tomorrow and we should start the finals around 11.30.

I agreee scott with the novice comment. being new to rc racing myself it seems stupid to change the name from 540 to novice, most of the field this weekend are hardly novice racers …. I would say a good 2/3 of the field are seasoned and very talented racers
I dont have anything against them racing just the name change seems a bit stupid, I mean its hardly novice when you walk around the pits chatting to the guys asking how long they have been racing.
is this a perminent name change or just for this weekends event?

Anyone can compete in novice Phil as long as they havent placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a previous ORRCCA sanctioned event ie titles from the previous years so they are well within their right to race in that category.

Ashley, qld titles was my 4th race meet.
vazzo, I understand that and I have no problems with it at all, just seems the name change to novice when it isnt really novice at all is a bit silly
