Stories from the world of RC car racing

Today I turned the clock back nearly 30 years – it’s been that long since I’ve been in a worked V8 powered Holden. In 79 I did the Repco Round Australia Trial in a Monaro with a worked 308 and it could go pretty hard. Today I went a few laps in a standard Commodore V8 something fitted with Production Car Racing Tyres and guess what – Holden have come a long way in 30 years – the power is enormous and the brakes – wow. The cornering speeds are more than I could have imagined and you’ll never understand that from watching V8 racing on TV or at Trackside. Even though it wasn’t a Ford I have to confess to having had an enormous amount of pleasure and enjoyment today.

I had an enjoyable Saturday night at Meakin Park. Caught up with a few friends, enjoyed some good racing with John Perkins, Michael Sherman (too fast) and Shayne Pearce, and started the process of getting the eye in for the Queensland Championships. I’ll make it up to the Sunday of the interclub to try out the track and continue trying to find some elusive form! Tonight in mod, Mick won easily from myself, JP and Shayne.
In stock Karl Yeung won pretty easily, while in Nitro tourer John Taynton did likewise. I missed the 540 final so not sure what happen – perhaps somebody could fill me in…
