For the first time since the first Summer Cup I wasn’t able to race both days. I was able to race the Friday night but not the Saturday – very sad.
Friday was Nitro day…..
Friday was Nitro day so I turned up with the Schumacher R12 powered as usual by the old and trusty OS CVR to run Gas Tourer. Naturally I was a little apprehensive as to how the CVR would fare as we had had changes to the rules which had allowed some TOP engines and a rear exhaust OS engine in.
I didn’t have a prearranged pit crew but as luck would have it Paul Fahey was there and he readily agreed to do the hard yards for me – great work Paul.
A good crowd turned out to race and there was some good races all night. I had a king pin come out in the first heat – write that heat off. Between the first and second heat I checked all the other king pins and ended up leaving one shock off the left hand front – disaster of course – write that heat off. Third heat we finished but a little slow because I had changed tyres between heats and the new tyres were a disaster. Not quite a write off, enough to ensure a A final spot. The worry was that at the end of the third heat the motor cut out without Paul stopping it.
For the final I changed the glow plug just in case but when I went to give it a trial run 10 minutes before the final started it wouldn’t run. Messed with the tune a bit to no avail and then found that it was a seized clutch bearing. Did a quick change but then the motor was all out of tune from me messing with it and so we started the final with a motor that stalled a couple of times and wasn’t running right. The car was handling well though and going ok between stalls. Think I was 6th or 7th when the rain came and stopped play.
i was interested to see that there was no stand out motors in the field – certainly the OS rear exhaust motor is nothing to worry about and I think just another good motor for the class. Was good to watch the dices between Jason Dorn and Mick Sherman in there heat.
Sorry I missed Saturday night – maybe someone can give us a story of how Saturday night panned out . I know Bob was running the new Xenon 36 tyres and reported that they are at least a s good as Sorex or possibly better. Bob is suffering from batteries that are tapering off at the moment.
Well done Logan club for another worthy event – seemed to be lots of smiles all round which is still the most important thing I reckon.
