Stories from the world of RC car racing

It’s just over a week to the annual Logan Winter Cup – so we thought we’d cast an eye over the electric field and see who might do what. Here’s our tips:

540:  I’m going to go ahead and tip Nigel Brokenshire for this one.  Nigel has been gathering some great experience of late and demonstrating good pace everywhere.  He will be tough to stop.  Tristian Hyde is one guy who could just do the stopping. Should be interesting!
Stock: Stock has been unbelievably competitive lately.  That said it’s still very hard to go past Damien Barnier or Adrian Beggs. Local gun Johhny Hyde will also be fast and close to the front along with 2005 Qld Champ (on this track) Bob Vardy and the evergreen Jason Wakefield.  Heavy will have the Academy wound up and chased hard by Brad Hall and Brad Palmer.  If the Murwillumbah boys make it up for the race they will be as hard to stop as ever.  My tip: Adrian Beggs
19T: It’s always interesting to see who fronts for 19T racing – and to see the relative performance of regular stock and mod drivers.  So far it’s always gone to the mod-guys and it’s hard to see anything different happening this time – hard, but not impossible.  Keith Mackrill and Anthony Atack will lead the charge, but I think the dark horse is Damien Barnier. Damien’s driving has been the stand-out for 2006 and in limited horsepower classes like Stock, 19T and the recent HPI Challenge, he’s been quick. My Tip: Keith Mackrill
Mod: First time out on the new Logan layout and surface for lots of the guys won’t reduce the competitiveness by much. The usual suspects – Anthony and Keith – will be hard to stop, but watch closely for John Perkins. John has been threatening a big win for a while and on home turf I think he might spring a suprise. I hope to be pretty close to the front too. Should be an interesting day’s racing! My Tip: John Perkins
