Stories from the world of RC car racing

No this is not a Schumacher -it’s an Academy. Academy is a reasonably new brand to the Australian market and I thought worth a look. The one I’ve been putting together over the last couple of days is a 4wd Shaft drive Touring car, but Academy actually have an amazing range of cars from 1/12th scale through 1/10th 2wd Touring cars and Offroad cars and on to 4wd touring cars and offroad cars. That’s in electric and then there is Nitro as well. The 4wd Offroad Buggy appears to share teh same transmission as the touring car – I’m interested in having a look at that car as well – 4wd Stock Offroad sounds pretty good to me.
The Touring car comes in considerably cheaper than our usual top range of Touring cars and hence my interest. I thought it looked to be half a chance and decided to get one and test it in the Ultra competitive world of Stock racing. It will have to be able to hold it’s head up racing against some stiff oposition, build well, be reasonably durable, have a ready supply of spares, and look the part as well.
I will give a blow by blow description of the build at some stage but suffice to say at this stage that it went together very well, great parts fit, fully 2mm hex head screws, spare spur gears and an adapter in case you want to use your favourite brand of spur. Well I can say it’s past the build test and does look good (dare I say HPI pro 4ish).
I am tempted to finish out the season at Bayside (2 more meets) using the EC bescause the Championship is finely balanced to say the least but I am also itching to get this car on the track on Sunday so time will tell – perhaps a visit to Bayside on Friday morning for a shakedown is called for. Sounds like a plan.
