just got a phone call from sydney..
sounds like some of the guys have been struggling with the inconsistency of the track since the vht was sprayed on it this afternoon, with their cars spinning as they hit slick patches that have formed on it. hopefully they can get ontop of it for sunday.
for those that have been there before… i belive stock and hpi are running reverse short track while modified are running the regualr long track as are all of the gas classes.
good luck to all the queenslanders this weekend.

My understanding is that Damian was looking to have it shot to bits but was involved in an incident (no details) and was knocked back to last from where he made his way back to third. Brad Hall I think finished 4th.

from what i can remember from a phone call while i was at brendale this afternoon…
mod – 1st andrew abbott, 2nd darren campbell, 3rd ric bartolozzi, 4th ari bakla.
i think john perkins qualified 15th but had problems and had to pull out of his main.
stock – 1st clarke, not sure about 2nd but i think stuart grant 3rd. damian got a 3rd, 4th and a 3rd in the mains which was good enough for 4th overall.

just got back in from sydney, here’s my recount of the weekend
    Friday
arrived at the track about 10am after spending about 2 hours trying to find a repco to get motor spray. by around 1:30 i had a setup which felt pretty good, bought my car in and put on quite a different setup. they then sprayed on the vht, add a bit of rain from a quick shower, and my car was doing 360s for the rest of the afternoon. left the track quite annoyed that i didnt have a chance to put in much track time and concerned that i’d be running last on saturday. spent friday night rebuilding my car, shocks, etc.
    Saturday
first qualifier – track still quite slick but was able to put a few decent laps between 360s, in second at this point.
second qualifier – grip came up quite a bit, made a few changes to the setup and was reasonably happy with my lap times and the car, still in second place.
third qualifier – and a few more changes, and my car was pretty dialed, put in some solid laps and closing in on anthony campbell when i got a glitch on the backstraight and ended up in the grass, finished this round .2sec behind paul tomic for a third on the grid for the mains, would of been on 2 (maybe 1) if not for the glitch.
first main, anthony made a mistake early on and i got in front and was building a solid lead, before making a mistake on the sweeper and ending up on my roof, took a while to get marshalled and by the time i was on my wheels again i was in last, made it back to 3rd.
second main, bad luck on the first lap put me in last again, i believe i finished 3rd again.
third main, more bad luck on the first lap, body stuck under front wheel, last again and back up to 3rd (or 2nd)..
missed out on the trip, but overall very happy with my car and setup, putting in some very quick laps, but lack of track time and some bad luck let me down, looking forward to sunday racing.
    Sunday
first qualifier – track quite slippery, made a few small changes to settle the car down for stock, pretty happy with car, although not perfect.
found out after qualifier that there would be 4 qualifiers, and kicking myself that i used a good pack for the first one.
second qualifier – grip had come up, car working well, put in some solid laps, set tq at this point by about 3 secs.
third qualifier – few small changes and car pretty much perfect now, heaps of steering, heaps of corner speed, put in some very fast laps but a few mistakes lost me about 5 seconds, ended up about 4 seconds behind the other fast guys.
fourth qualifier – ran this on a half charged 3800 (don’t ask – generators), and still managed a decent time, speed was down a bit, but drove cleanly with no mistakes and set a decent time (3sec off tq) to put me 6th on the grid for the a main, pretty disappointed that i wasted 2 qualifiers but my car was working very well.
first main – decent start (and my first bit of luck of the weekend) got me in 3rd by the end of the first lap, quite a bit behind 1st and 2nd, but managed to close the gap on 2nd (stuart?), he had too much speed down the straights but i was able to keep up due to cornerspeed, finished in 3rd.
second main – more bad luck, dropped a few places on first lap, but got back up to 6th, sat on luc’s bumper for quite a few laps until he made a mistake on the sweeper, moved up to 5th, caught and moved up to 4th, wasn’t able to catch the others, finished in 4th. (and managed to get a bit more speed from my motor)
third main – decent start again, up to 4th place, put some pressure on paul tomic for a few laps until he ran wide and I got by, front guys had quite a lead at this stage but was slowly gaining on them, ran out of time and finished 3rd.
pretty happy with my result (4th overall) from 6th on the grid, it could of been better but the competition was strong, and I didn’t have much track time. I did take a lot away from the weekend experience wise, and looking forward to next year already…
( oh, and I won a hotbodies lightning 10 in the raffle – anyone want to swap for a cyclone? )
