The Hobbystation track has been prepared, repainted, track markings replaced, relaid and re-fastened. The surface is clean, the track is closed to drift cars and offroad trucks so will stay clean. In three days time the Brisbane Cup & Hobbystation Invitational will roar into life…..
I had my last run at Hobbystation today in preparation for the invitational race. I’m really excited about this race and after today I think I’m ready. The Mi2-EC is working nicely, I have plenty of power for the small indoor track, and I’ve done enough laps to be ready. It only remains to be seen if I can drive well enough on the weekend. For what it’s worth here’s my thumbnail sketch on others in the Invitational field.
Anthony Atack: Queensland’s #1 driver, plenty of laps around the Hobbystation Track, in good form and deservedly starts narrow favourite. Only question is which car will he run? Decisions, decisions!
Keith Mackrill: Rejuvenated in 2006, tonnes of experience, plenty of speed. Knows the Pro 4 well and the track will suit his neat and precise driving style. I would expect Keith to take it right up to Anthony.
Peter Dooley: Driving as well or better than he ever has. Top performer at last year’s Qld Titles, plenty of track time, and has the JRX-S working sweetly. Speed not an issue, just needs to put together 12 consistent races and will threaten.
John Perkins: Up against it as a late inclusion with the withdrawal of Iain Schwartz. John has the RDX working well, plenty of grunt from Novak’s GTB/Velociti system, but perhaps lacks track time at this venue. Late arrival on Sat means he’ll be on the back foot early. Look for John to improve through the weekend.
Chris Primmer: Hot from big results at the Offroad EP Nats in Perth last weekend. Always fast, always neat, always plenty of power. Chris will get the JRX-S working well and this track should suit him. A front-running contender.
Chris Putnam: First time racing in Queensland, Chris is no stranger to powerful performances on small tracks. He’ll be in his element and very confident in the performance of the Mi2-EC. Provided he gets plenty of track time Friday & early Saturday, Chris is in with a big chance.
Andy Cooke: Probably I think ranked #2 behind Anthony going into this race. Andy has miles of experience all over the world, arguably the fastest RDX in the country and is a proven big race performer. He will be very tough to stop.
The rotating grid arrangements will mean plenty of different race winners. My prediction? Anthony fast out of the blocks saturday and gradually getting mown down by Andy and Chris (P) Sunday. Come, watch, race yourself in the 540/Stock/Mod classes and see…..
All is ready….
